The judge&#8217;s progressive online presence and decision have drawn criticism and legal actions. Nolan, Jr., who serves in the D.C. Superior Court as a magistrate judge, released Amonte Moody and put him under house arrest despite vehement opposition from prosecutors, according to reporting from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/judge-facing-heat-releasing-alleged-dc-teen-shooter-donated-soros-fund-posted-being-woke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/legal\/amonte-moody-ar-15-judge-releases-alleged-shooter-us-attorney-for-district-of-columbia\/65-80cd6a74-eea8-4524-a8ab-57ea45f9c463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WUSA-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The accused, a black male, allegedly opened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/philadelphia-shooting-suspect-told-police-killing-spree-help-fight-gun-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fire<\/a> from an AR-15 at 2:19 a.m. on April 22 near the intersection of 17th Street and Independence Avenue, SE, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/crime\/crime-gun-violence-district-of-columbia-us-attoneys-office-matthew-graves-ar15-rifle\/65-201db8a1-2870-4ff9-9ffc-58c269225d51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WUSA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DC judge released 18-year-old accused of firing 26 shots from AR-15 at car, despite his concerns\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XdceOXivZSY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Footage of the incident was recorded by at least three security cameras, court documents said, according to the news station.<\/p>\n<p>Social media posts by Nolan, reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/judge-facing-heat-releasing-alleged-dc-teen-shooter-donated-soros-fund-posted-being-woke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, showed that the magistrate has proudly described himself as \u201cwoke\u201d and promoted posts supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n<p>Nolan also posted about giving to a fundraiser by Gideon\u2019s Promise, a non-profit founded by George Soros-linked professor Jonathan Rapping, Fox News reported.<\/p>\n<p>Rapping founded the organization in 2007 and received a fellowship from Soros\u2019 Open Society Foundation, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Gideon\u2019s Promise trains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-oregon-public-defenders-lobby-for-sweeping-overhaul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public defenders<\/a> across the US, offering programs to help public defenders provide quality legal representation to those lacking the means to afford attorneys.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should suspects of violent crimes be eligible for release?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A Ring doorbell video seen by <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/news\/local\/washington-dc-crime-man-released-from-jail-pending-trial-independence-avenue-southeast-dc-gunshots-shooting-ar-15-firearm-weapon-surveillance-video-juvenile-crime-justice-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WJLA-TV<\/a> showed Moody firing toward an alleyway fence before sprinting down a street and firing upon a vehicle departing from the area.<\/p>\n<p>Moody had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-mass-shooting-kills-8-media-races-to-speculate-on-motive\/\" title=\"Georgia Mass Shooting Kills 8, Media Races To Speculate On Motive\">allegedly opened fire<\/a> 26 times at a car with four people onboard, court documents stated, according to the news station. It did not appear anyone in the car was firing back, and it does not appear as if any injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n<p>When police responded to reports of the shooting, they found 26 shell casings on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also located a disassembled AR-15 stowed away in the ceiling of Moody\u2019s home, WJLA reported.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, according to the news station, the teenager was slapped with charges of endangerment with a firearm, possession of a weapon, and assault.<\/p>\n<p>However, on May 3, Nolan determined that Moody was safe to be released and let the accused remain under house arrest in Maryland with a GPS monitor, according to Fox News and WJLA.<\/p>\n<p>An emergency order has been filed by the U.S. Attorney for D.C.\u2019s office in order to overturn the magistrate judge\u2019s judgment to grant the accused pre-trial release.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing for the emergency order will occur on May 22, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the egregiousness of this conduct, the strength of the case, including video evidence depicting it and two identifications of the defendant as the shooter, and the statutory presumption in favor of detention pending trial, the Magistrate Judge released the defendant,\u201d prosecutors said, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Nolan has not responded to Fox News\u2019 requests for comment.
