Stakeholders claim James&#8217; actions overlook the risks associated with chemical abortions, emphasizing the need for informed consent and medical \u2064oversight.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has a history of using <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/27\/new-york-is-waging-radical-pro-abortion-lawfare-on-peaceful-pro-lifers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawfare<\/a> to target people who want to protect unborn babies, is furthering her campaign against pro-lifers by suing nearly a dozen pregnancy centers for offering women abortion pill reversals.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/court-filings\/the_people_of_the_statvhbi-complaint_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complaint<\/a> filed at the beginning of May, James alleged Heartbeat International and 11 pregnancy centers, including one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compasscarecommunity.com\/2022\/06\/supreme-court-suspends-release-schedule-without-roe-reversal-janes-revenge-takes-responsibility-for-buffalo-firebombing-promises-escalation-of-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">firebombed by abortion terrorists<\/a> following the leak of the Supreme Court\u2019s <em>Dobbs v. Jackson <\/em>draft decision, made \u201cfalse and misleading statements\u201d about <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/01\/abortion-pill-reversal-gave-my-daughter-and-me-a-second-chance-at-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">life-saving<\/a> treatments used to reverse attempted abortions induced by mifepristone. She said that offering women who decided they did not want to complete their chemical abortions a safe way out amounts to \u201cfraud, deceptive business practices, and false advertising under New York law.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The timing of James\u2019 lawsuit is no coincidence. She not only sued the defendants in question after they <a href=\"https:\/\/assets-global.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/66316c6cc9866f5cee7cda47_E2024007242_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_v_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_COMPLAINT_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued for relief<\/a> from her \u201cpolitically motivated campaign,\u201d but she also timed the lawsuit to make headlines as the U.S. Supreme Court weighs whether\u00a0the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) likely violated the law when it approved abortion pills, which are responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/02\/medication-abortion-now-accounts-more-half-all-us-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than half<\/a> of the nation\u2019s abortions, for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/17\/biden-administration-endorses-more-baby-killing-by-green-lighting-mail-order-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mail order<\/a> and other expansions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on NY AG\u00a0Letitia\u00a0James\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compasscarecommunity.com\/2023\/09\/pattern-of-government-collusion-with-big-tech-to-censor-politically-disfavored-pro-lifers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">irresponsible record of protecting big abortion<\/a>, it appears that her lawsuit against us is a smokescreen to obscure the rampant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-dangerous-safety-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">malpractice and fraud<\/a> that is the chemical abortion industry ahead of an anticipated June Supreme Court decision on that very subject,\u201d CompassCare CEO Rev. Jim Harden said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>James also falsely claimed abortion pill reversal (APR) is not \u201cbacked by science and does not meet clinical standards\u201d because the \u201conly clinical trial conducted to evaluate APR had to be halted due to concerns about patient safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/abortion-pill-reversal-a-record-of-safety-and-efficacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30831017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">studies<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/37969420\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have determined<\/a> that increasing intramuscular and high-dose oral\u00a0progesterone in women who ingest the abortion drug regimen and regret it\u00a0is \u201csafe and effective\u201d and resulted in \u201cno apparent increased risk of birth defects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James is correct that the University of California, Davis researchers who conducted a 2019 study on abortion pill reversal canceled their work, citing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2019\/12\/05\/785262221\/safety-problems-lead-to-early-end-for-study-of-abortion-pill-reversal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201crisk to women.\u201d<\/a> The \u201crisk\u201d in question, however, came after three of the 12 women who took <em>mifepristone<\/em>, the abortion drug, for the sake of the study \u201crequired ambulance transport to a hospital for treatment of severe vaginal bleeding.\u201d Two of them hadn\u2019t ingested any reversal drug.<\/p>\n<p>James\u2019 targeting of pregnancy centers over a life-saving treatment that she says lacks \u201csafety and effectiveness\u201d is ironic given the abortion pill\u2019s proven history of causing dangerous and <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33939340\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sometimes fatal\u00a0complications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mifepristone is <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/public-health-threat-chemical-abortion-leads-to-significantly-higher-rate-of-er-visits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">responsible<\/a> for a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/federal-judge-says-fda-wrongfully-approved-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">500 percent increase<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-misrepresenting-chemical-abortions-as-miscarriages-at-increased-risk-of-multiple-hospitalizations-study-finds\/\" title=\"Women Misrepresenting Chemical Abortions As Miscarriages At Increased Risk Of Multiple Hospitalizations, Study Finds\">abortion-related emergency room visits<\/a> for side effects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/prochoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/phone_triage_guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hemorrhage<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements\/mifepristone-oral-route\/side-effects\/drg-20067123\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cfast, weak pulse,\u201d \u201cshortness of breath,\u201d diarrhea, dizziness, headache, vomiting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements\/mifepristone-oral-route\/side-effects\/drg-20067123\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cpain\u201d across the back, arms, neck, and abdomen<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/fact-sheet-risks-and-complications-of-chemical-abortion\/#_ftn19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">myriad other risks<\/a>. The FDA even admits on the drug\u2019s label that nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2016\/020687s020lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 in 25 women<\/a> who take it will end up in the emergency room or hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/issuesinlawandmedicine.com\/articles\/united-kingdom-data-deficiencies-influencing-u-s-fda-decisions\/\">peer-reviewed article<\/a> published this month found that the FDA used \u201cflawed studies with significantly undercounted complications\u201d when it <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/05\/fda-aids-bidens-abortion-for-all-agenda-by-letting-pharmacies-sell-dangerous-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quietly modified<\/a> its regulation to allow abortion pills via remote prescription, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/17\/biden-administration-endorses-more-baby-killing-by-green-lighting-mail-order-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mail-order<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/05\/selling-abortion-pills-bloodies-the-hands-of-walgreens-and-cvs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chain pharmacy pickup<\/a> to accommodate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/biden-administration-signals-fight-over-medication-abortion-2022-06-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden White House\u2019s<\/a> post-<em>Roe<\/em> activism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will increase the risk of complications due to failure to adequately determine the gestational age or rule out ectopic pregnancy by ultrasound or physical exam, failure to perform labs to document whether RhoGAM is indicated, and failure to obtain appropriate informed consent to prevent unwanted abortions, among other concerns,\u201d the article\u2019s authors warn. <\/p>\n<p>As James continues her conquest against pro-lifers and pregnancy centers that give women the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/22\/the-pregnancy-center-that-saved-my-life-years-ago-still-supports-me-and-my-sons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hope<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/13\/a-pregnancy-care-center-helped-me-become-a-mom-and-a-follower-of-jesus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">support<\/a> they need to nurture and raise surprise babies, New York is preparing to earmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/new-york-budget-36m-abortion-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$36 million<\/a> of the state\u2019s 2025 budget to advance Democrats\u2019 abortion agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The budget, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/new-york-playbook\/2024\/04\/26\/abortion-money-quietly-made-the-state-budget-00154513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approved<\/a> by Gov. Kathy Hochul at the end of April, sets aside $25 million in taxpayer dollars for abortion nonprofits to expand their efforts to kill preborn babies. The governor also appropriated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-announces-10-million-awarded-first-round-abortion-provider-support-fund#:~:text=July%2012%2C%202022-,Governor%20Hochul%20Announces%20%2410%20Million%20Awarded%20in%20the,of%20Abortion%20Provider%20Support%20Fund&#038;text=Governor%20Kathy%20Hochul%20today%20announced,13%20programs%2C%20covering%2063%20sites.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$10 million<\/a> in security grants to abortion facilities \u201cto help ensure the safety of the providers performing this vital care.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
