Most voters associated Trump&#8217;s\u200d presidency with his\u200d behavior, economy, and immigration, rather than\u2062 these tumultuous\u2064 events. This outcome presents a PR win for Trump \u2062and a setback for Biden&#8217;s campaign\u2063 strategy.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A new poll found that the most chaotic parts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Trump administration\">Donald Trump\u2019s administration<\/a> have been largely forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the global and domestic upheaval brought on by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/january-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Jan. 6\">Jan. 6<\/a> riot at the Capitol and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"COVID-19 pandemic\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, voters said they were some of the least memorable aspects of Trump\u2019s time in office.<\/p>\n<p>Surveying 1,000 voters nationwide, a <em>New York Times<\/em>\/Siena College <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/04\/14\/us\/elections\/times-siena-poll-registered-voter-crosstabs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"survey\">survey<\/a> asked voters what they associated most with Trump\u2019s presidency. A majority of voters associated his behavior, the economy, and immigration with his presidency, while less than 10% primarily associated it with the COVID-19 pandemic and the Jan. 6 riot.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>President Donald Trump sits at his desk after a meeting with Intel CEO Brian Krzanich in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Feb. 8, 2017. (AP Photo\/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The poll found that 39% of respondents listed behavior\/leadership\/personal characteristics as the thing they most associate with Trump\u2019s presidency, 24% said economic policies\/stimulus, 9% said immigration, 5% said foreign policy\/conflicts, 5% said the Jan. 6 riot, and just 4% said the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Of these, respondents were split down the middle as to whether these associations are positive or negative \u2014 34% said that these associations are positive and negative. Another 26% said they were neither positive nor negative.<\/p>\n<p>The results represent a public relations victory for Trump and a defeat of the Biden campaign, which has sought to make Trump\u2019s handling of the Jan. 6 riot and COVID-19 pandemic a central point in the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Seth Masket, a professor of political science at the University of Denver, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/05\/10\/upshot\/trump-memories-poll.html?unlocked_article_code=1.rk0.r7zm.1bf5xo4TL5Dc&#038;smid=url-share&#038;utm_source=newsletter&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiosam&#038;stream=top#_ga=2.43976609.500818400.1715600301-1210885306.1687660622\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"noted\">told<\/a> the <em>New York Times<\/em> that the responses are odd, as the Jan. 6 riot and COVID-19 pandemic were the two most recent major developments of his administration, and two of the biggest news items of the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn many ways, the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-amplifies-its-military-draft\/\" title=\"China amplifies its military draft\">recent things<\/a> about his presidency are not the things that people remember about him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The responses, though split in whether they believed the associations were positive or negative, are very beneficial for Trump, Masket added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump almost gets a pass,\u201d he said. \u201cHe just gets, \u2018Well, the first three years were good and the fourth year wasn\u2019t his fault.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of Trump\u2019s main strengths is the economy, which voters broadly associated as prosperous during the Trump administration and stagnant during the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf people are mostly thinking about the economy, that seems to be helping Trump right now, and what the Biden team is going to try and do is keep raising other issues, keep raising, you know, Jan. 6 as an issue or chaos and COVID as an issue,\u201d Masket said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s highest performance rating was on the economy, with nearly two-thirds of voters giving him a positive assessment. <\/p>\n<p>Overall, voters had a much more positive association with the Trump years than the Biden years. The poll found that 42% of voters viewed the Trump years as mostly good for America, compared to 33% thinking they were mostly bad.
