It was the first Derby won by a nose since 1996, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/kentucky-derby-stretch-duel-results-212000156.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lexington (Kentucky) Herald-Leader<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McPeek said Mystik Dan will be shipped to Baltimore on Sunday, according to the Louisville, Kentucky, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/story\/sports\/horses\/horse-racing\/2024\/05\/11\/mystik-dan-preakness-2024-horses-kentucky-derby-winner-kenny-mcpeek\/73634786007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Courier-Journal<\/a>. The draw for Preakness positions takes place on Monday. Only<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twinspires.com\/triple-crown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 13 horse<\/a>s have ever won the Triple Crown.<\/p>\n<p>Although Brian Hernandez Jr. will be Mystik Dan\u2019s jockey in the race, retired jockey Robby Albarado is riding him as he prepares for the race. Albarado and McPeek won the Preakness in 2020 with Swiss Skydiver.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Mystik Dan win the Triple Crown?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cKenny gave me a call and said, \u2018Rob, I need you at Pimlico,\u2019\u201d Albarado said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe and Kenny have had a little luck at Pimlico. We\u2019re trying to do this whole Swiss Skydiver thing over again. This will be the only time I\u2019ll be riding him this year, but we got just as good a rider, Brian, on him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobby knows this horse as well as anybody. I think he gets along with him the best,\u201d McPeek said.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by the AP, the last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-triple-crown-winner-justify-gets-horse-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triple Crown<\/a> champion, Justify, came in 2018. He really got hung out there, and then he got bumped pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was ready for the Arkansas Derby,\u201d McPeek said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to use that as an excuse. He did get turned sideways in that turn, and Brian felt like that cost him 3 or 4 lengths. The horse fought back, fortunately. And he and I had just (talked) from horseman to horseman \u2014 and not everybody calls you after you win a big race like that \u2014 but Bob\u2019s great. And we had a good chat about it. And he was over the moon for me.
