We\u2019re going to win New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not only does the former president have the Garden State in his sights, but he said President Joe Biden has been \u201cso bad, I think we\u2019re going to win them all. \u2026 I\u2019m going to look at Joe Biden and say, \u2018You\u2019re fired!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcome to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oan-to-provide-live-coverage-of-trumps-save-america-rally-in-wyo\/\" title=\"OAN to provide LIVE coverage of Trump\u2019s \u2018Save America\u2019 rally in Wyo.\">largest political event<\/a> in the history of the state of New Jersey,\u201d Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) told the crowd as supporters eagerly awaited Trump\u2019s remarks. The city only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/politics\/2024\/04\/trump-rally-will-take-place-on-the-same-beach-where-the-barefoot-country-music-festival-is-held.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>expected<\/a> between 30,000 and 40,000 in attendance, as Trump supporters have been lining up since <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/donald-trump-wildwood-nj-2024-rally-new-jersey-tickets\/14795695\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wednesday<\/a> night for his first-ever beach rally.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump arrives to speak during a campaign rally on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Wildwood, New Jersey. (AP Photo\/Matt Rourke)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Can Trump flip New Jersey?<\/h2>\n<p>Van Drew, who addressed the crowd ahead of Trump\u2019s remarks, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, \u201cI do think he has a chance. We\u2019re not doing this as a dress rehearsal. We\u2019re going to win, and we\u2019re going to do everything we can. And I believe we will. I think we\u2019re going to make some history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the New Jersey Democratic Party, to which he belonged until 2020, has an \u201cexcellent machine\u201d and that it brings out \u201ceverybody living and dead to vote in the election.\u201d Despite this, he said, Trump is now \u201calmost within the margin of error\u201d in a recent Emerson <a href=\"https:\/\/emersoncollegepolling.com\/new-jersey-2024-poll-majority-of-democrats-support-kim-for-u-s-senate-nomination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>poll<\/a>, in which he trails Biden by just 7 percentage points. Biden won the state by 16 points in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Wildwood mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. was more hesitant to express optimism about Trump\u2019s chances in New Jersey, citing the aforementioned Democratic machine in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to say,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I had it my way, I would divide the state in half. You\u2019d have the state of South Jersey and the state of North Jersey. North Jersey politics are totally different than South Jersey politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bashawforussenate.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Curtis Bashaw<\/a>, a Republican Senate candidate, said Trump could \u201cabsolutely, 100%\u201d win New Jersey because independent and Democratic voters are upset about the border, inflation, law enforcement, and parental rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not your grandmother\u2019s Democratic Party anymore, and people are sick of the extreme liberalism,\u201d Bashaw said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Trump] cares about Jersey, he spends half of his life in New Jersey,\u201d Van Drew added. \u201cSo it\u2019s a big deal to him. And he\u2019s expressed that to me, and that\u2019s why he\u2019s made me the chair of his Jersey campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Susan Kenny, 54, from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, said she thinks Trump can win her home state because \u201cpeople are just fed up with the crime and the border crisis and the economy. We just need to go back to the way things were.\u201d Her husband Edward, 64, said with inflation hurting his fellow New Jerseyans, \u201cTrump can make the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Expressing similar concerns to Troiano\u2019s, Richard Rounds, a production foreman from Camden County, said he\u2019s not sure if Trump can win New Jersey \u201cbecause there\u2019s a lot of blue Democrats in this state. I know South Jersey votes for Donald Trump, but in North Jersey you got a lot of New Yorkers coming down. So I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Military veteran Anthony Pahopin, 45, from Woodbridge, New Jersey, said he thinks Trump can appeal to New Jerseyans because he\u2019s effectively a \u201cthird-party candidate with conservative values\u201d and doesn\u2019t represent the establishment of either major party.<\/p>\n<h2>New Jerseyans are worried about the border and the economy under Biden<\/h2>\n<p>Van Drew, who represents Wildwood and most of South Jersey, said Garden State voters care deeply about securing the border as the migrant crisis \u201cdoesn\u2019t just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-matter-if-title-42-stays-or-goes-a-massive-migrant-influx-is-coming\/\" title=\"No Matter If Title 42 Stays Or Goes, A Massive Migrant Influx Is Coming\">affect border states<\/a>, it affects the whole country, and it affects New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The majority of voters the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> spoke to at the rally expressed that the border is the biggest concern that Trump speaks to them on, while others lamented Biden\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Christine Powell, 52, a hospice social worker from Medford, New Jersey, said, \u201cWe don\u2019t have a country [if we have] a porous border. I want every person who came here illegally to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/op-ed-christians-dont-be-afraid-to-ask-the-tough-question-eternity-is-at-stake\/\" title=\"Op-Ed: Christians, Embrace Tough Questions - Eternity Hangs in Balance\">shipped back home<\/a>, wherever that is, because it\u2019s illegal. They broke in. If I broke into my neighbor\u2019s house, I would be arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us that were living paycheck to paycheck are now living paycheck to paycheck plus maxing out every single credit card because this economy is absolutely horrible,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Reed, 18, a student at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, shared his concerns about finding a job and buying a house after college. \u201cInflation is going crazy. \u2026 It wasn\u2019t bad under [Trump], and it\u2019s getting really bad right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>New Jerseyans dismiss the former president\u2019s \u2018Trumped-up charges\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Trump\u2019s Wildwood rally comes right in the middle of his Manhattan hush money trial, being prosecuted by District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Van Drew called the legal efforts against Trump \u201cthe weaponization of our judicial system.\u201d Most rallygoers who spoke with the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> agreed with Van Drew\u2019s sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond Callahan, 64, a pest control technician in the state called it \u201cthe banana-republic mentality. If you can\u2019t beat them, put them in jail.\u201d Bashow, the senate candidate, called it \u201cpersecution by prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cape May County Republican Party Chairman Michael Donahue described the legal efforts as \u201celection interference\u201d and a \u201csham.\u201d He pointed out that Hunter Biden has not been prosecuted for alleged criminal wrongdoings discovered on his laptop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople in glass houses should not throw stones,\u201d said Judy Berkeyheiser, 55, a secretary from Bordentown, New Jersey. \u201cThey need to look at the Biden family.\u201d Her husband Marc, 51, an investigator for the Army, called the efforts \u201cTrumped-up charges.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>New Jerseyans shared their favorite candidates for vice president<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) was the most popular choice for vice president out of the rallygoers interviewed by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, followed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.<\/p>\n<p>Susan Kenny said she loves everything Scott stands for, and \u201cthe fact that he came from nothing and made himself into something great. I think this is what a lot of people aspire to be.\u201d She also said she likes DeSantis but thinks he is too similar to Trump and wouldn\u2019t expand his winning coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Marc and Judy Berkeyheiser, along with Rhyanna Brown, 24, and Brian Blackburn, 22 whom they attended the rally with, all signaled Noem as their favorite vice presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Bass, 64, a general contractor who has a summer home in North Wildwood, said he also likes Noem but that she \u201cshot herself in the foot\u201d by revealing that she shot and killed her 14-month-old dog. Scott is his favorite for Trump\u2019s running mate.<\/p>\n<p>Pahopin, the military veteran, said Ramaswamy is his favorite because \u201che\u2019s a breath of fresh air. He\u2019s not really into politics. (Peter Cordi\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump addressed the crowd after Van Drew gave a speech mentioning how the former president supported him when he became a Republican in 2020, despite skepticism within the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>Van Drew told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that changing parties was \u201cnot an easy thing to do, quite frankly\u201d and detailed his relationship with Trump and how the pair \u201cdeveloped a friendship\u201d after spending a good amount of time together and \u201cliterally spoke about everything,\u201d from faith to freedom to family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a loyal guy and if you\u2019re straight with him, he\u2019s straight with you,\u201d Van Drew said, noting that they have spoken roughly once a week since the budding of their friendship. He revealed that he personally requested that Trump visit South Jersey for the second time to \u201cmake history,\u201d as no president has visited the area twice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Jerseyans are, by and large, hardworking, good people,\u201d Van Drew said. \u201cYes, it is a blue state, but they also have certain beliefs and principles.
