This\u2064 dispute \u2063has sparked controversy within social justice funding partnerships, emphasizing the importance of transparency and financial integrity.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ajose\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ajose\/%20\"><span>Andrew Jose<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 11, 2024 at 2:42pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is suing progressive nonprofit the Tides Foundation for allegedly defrauding the BLMGNF and holding back around $33 million in donations, according to documents filed Monday in California Superior Court.<\/p>\n<p>BLMGNF accused Tides of refusing \u201cto honor its promises\u201d to the network and alleged that Tides \u201ccontinues to commandeer BLMGNF\u2019s donations\u201d in the <a href=\"https:\/\/aboutblaw.com\/bdXg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, BLMGNF alleged, Tides was handing out money that was supposed to go to BLMGNF to what the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/09\/us-news\/blm-global-network-sues-group-helping-fund-college-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> called a \u201cradical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/blm-school-releases-pro-palestinian-toolkit-teach-us-kids-israels-dismal-world-image\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BLM<\/a> breakaway group run by anti-police activist Melina Abdullah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abdullah had previously lost a \u201cfrivolous lawsuit\u201d against the BLMGNF, the Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>Tides is a left-leaning donor-advised fund that disburses money from anonymous contributors to other organizations. The organization notably has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/26\/us-news\/george-soros-maoist-fund-columbias-anti-israel-tent-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a> close to $14 million from billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, through their Open Society Foundations, according to the Post.<\/p>\n<p>The fund reportedly functions as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/swing-state-sued-establishing-clearinghouse-online-absentee-ballot-application-process-violation-state-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clearinghouse<\/a>, collecting donations on behalf of organizations that may be lacking a 501(c)(3) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leah-remini-says-her-16-year-old-daughter-keeps-her-woke\/\" title=\"Leah Remini Says Her 16-Year-Old Daughter Keeps Her \u2018Woke\u2019\">tax-exempt status<\/a>. The organization also acts as an incubator for startup progressive groups, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2997712\/black-lives-matter-dark-money-group-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Examiner<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>The organization, the Post reported, takes a cut of three to nine percent from the donations it manages on behalf of other groups.<\/p>\n<p>Tides has been a major bankroller of pro-Palestinian organizations that have been instigating the pro-Palestinian riots and encampments on campuses across the country, according to the Post and the Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTides has engaged in deceptive business practices and has operated in a quasi-banking capacity without appropriate regulatory oversight of licenses,\u201d the BLMGNF alleged in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you stand with Israel?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The organization further alleged that \u201cTides operates with a level of autonomy and minimal regulatory scrutiny that is starkly at odds with the regulatory framework imposed on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/crypto-investors-lost-nearly-4-billion-to-hackers-last-year\/\" title=\"Crypto Investors Lost Nearly  Billion to Hackers Last Year\">traditional financial institutions<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between the two non-profits dates back to 2020, according to the lawsuit, when BLMGNF began receiving millions of dollars in donations following the death of George Floyd, which sparked political activism throughout the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Lacking tax-exempt status at the time, BLMGNF went to Tides, asking the organization \u201cfor support in managing and holding millions of dollars in donations based on Tides\u2019 representations that Tides would return the donations to BLM GNF upon BLM GNF\u2019s request.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleged that Tides even committed to paying all the money due to BLMGNF \u201cto a particular donor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BLMGNF ended its relationship with Tides in 2022 upon receiving tax-exempt status, the Post reported. However, Tides, the lawsuit alleged, failed to hand over the funds \u2014 an estimated $33 million \u2014 it owed to BLMGNF, according to the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Although the organization, on June 9, 2022, claimed to have handed $7.4 million from the collective fund to BLMGNF, it instead disbursed around $4.75 million to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/comedian-makes-controversial-george-floyd-joke-clears-infuriated-blm-liberals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BLM chapter<\/a> in Oklahoma City that was not affiliated with BLMGNF, the Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResources in the Black Lives Matter [collective action fund] were never intended to be granted to large, well-funded national organizations like Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, and were always intended to be granted to local Black Lives Matter chapters,\u201d Tides said in a statement shared with the Post. \u201cBLMGNF\u2019s lawsuit seeks to circumvent the intent of the Fund\u2019s donors and deprive grassroots Black Lives Matter chapters critical resources, for its own benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit against the Tides Foundation is not just about financial discrepancies but the principle of rightful ownership and transparency that should govern partnerships in social justice funding,\u201d BLMGNF\u2019s attorney Byron McLain said Wednesday, the Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an expectation for Black Lives Matter to challenge systems, break barriers and uphold the truth, no matter how uncomfortable,\u201d BLMGNF said in a statement shared with the Examiner. \u201cToday, that extends into non-profit operations as we call out Tides Foundation and other so-called \u2018fiscal sponsors\u2019 who exploit their role.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
