But one woman defending the crime got an earful on \u201cDr. Phil\u201d as the host and his guests blasted her for her claims.<\/p>\n<p>Phil McGraw recently hosted an episode of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/don-lemon-vows-to-be-this-generations-version-of-johnny-carson-oprah\/\" title=\"Don Lemon Vows To Be \u2018This Generation\u2019s Version Of\u2019 Johnny Carson, Oprah\">talk show centered<\/a> around the topic of squatters \u2014 people who illegally enter and begin living in a property they neither own nor pay rent to occupy. The landowners on the show told the audience about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/state-lawmakers-unanimously-pass-anti-squatting-bill-permanently-close-infuriating-loophole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legal loopholes<\/a> these criminals are using to steal people\u2019s rightful property.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cAcross the country, criminals are staking claim to the homes of hard-working Americans.\u201d \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrPhil?\">@drphil<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Phil speaks with homeowners who\u2019ve suffered at the hands of squatters occupying their properties.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcf1\ud83d\udcbb Download the Merit+ app at <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IHMAJh6oF1\">https:\/\/t.co\/IHMAJh6oF1<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jRXiuNAk8j\">pic.twitter.com\/jRXiuNAk8j<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dr. Phil Primetime (@drphilprimetime) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drphilprimetime\/status\/1781759746430665035?\">April 20, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But one of the real estate agents whom McGraw invited onto the show defended the squatters and insisted they were reacting in opposition to \u201ccolonization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you are unaware, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/thanksgiving-give-thanks-american-colonialism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">colonization<\/a>\u201d is a left-wing buzzword meaning white people stealing lands from indigenous people.<\/p>\n<p>During the April 18 episode of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meritplus.com\/c\/s\/VQ2aB6Sp?episodeId=Dena6F5h&#038;play=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Phil Primetime<\/a>,\u201d the real estate agent, identified only as Kristine, said she \u201cdoesn\u2019t think adverse possession is immoral,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/dr-phils-jaw-drops-guest-uses-colonialism-justification-squatters-take-land-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she said, \u201cpeople with no housing dying from the elements is immoral.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can already tell she was playing games with language by calling it \u201cadverse possession\u201d instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/handyman-devises-simple-system-legally-get-rid-squatters-home-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">squatting<\/a>. Still, that phrase has a legal definition. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/adverse_possession\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legal Information Institute<\/a> defines \u201cadverse possession\u201d as when a \u201cperson in possession of land owned by someone else may acquire valid title to it, so long as certain requirements are met, and the adverse possessor is in possession for a sufficient period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is squatting ever justified?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This leftist insisted that squatting is a legitimate practice because the U.S. government stole all of its land from Native Americans through adverse possession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s exactly how the U.S. government is designed, that\u2019s how everyone here has their land. They took it through adverse possession,\u201d she said, according to Fox News. \u201cSo that\u2019s how the law is designed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, is nonsense. Whatever you believe of what happened to the Native Americans, \u201cadverse possession\u201d is certainly not \u201chow everyone here has their land.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most of us either bought our home or rented it. But she went on to insist that if someone owned 1,000 acres of land, he wouldn\u2019t miss a few acres if someone squatted on the property and stole it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you tell me, if you\u2019re looking at 1,000 acres, could you tell me what five acres was?\u201d Kristine said.<\/p>\n<p>Tony, one of the landowners on the panel, though, shot back by saying, \u201cWe\u2019re not in 1776, we\u2019re in 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But she persisted, arguing that \u201cthe rich\u201d and corporations are evil for owning things and that they are a legitimate target of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-ends-squatter-scam-signing-new-bill-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">squatters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you think that a corporation that makes over a billion dollars a year is injured by someone taking five acres of land?\u201d Kristine asked.<\/p>\n<p>Another of the landowners, Patty, made the perfect point to her absurd arguments and asked if she was using her car 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaying out your scenario, then theoretically anyone on the street should be able to boost your car and drive it, because that car is just sitting around unused,\u201d Patti said as McGraw\u2019s audience applauded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have a billion-dollar net worth,\u201d Kristine responded \u2014 as if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-enraged-homeowner-arrested-squatters-raid-1m-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wealth<\/a> is a legitimate reason to negate someone\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<p>Still, she did try to make a distinction between destructive squatters trying to steal a suburban house from a landlord and the act of \u201cadverse possession.\u201d Kristine said she opposed the theft of homes from landlords by criminal squatters and she only wanted to target corporations and the rich.<\/p>\n<p>But is that really any better?<\/p>\n<p>This woman did not gain any converts on McGraw\u2019s show. As well she shouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Squatting hurts everyone. It drives down property values and undermines all of our rights.
