The arrests followed cooperation from witnesses \u200dand resulted in \u2064severe federal charges.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>US Flight Attendants Arrested, Allegedly Used Status as &#8216;Known Crewmembers&#8217; for International Scheme<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/%20\"><span>Johnathan Jones<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 10, 2024 at 10:45am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The Department of Justice charged four American flight attendants with abusing their status as airline employees to smuggle drug money to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/top-biden-doj-official-hot-water-failing-disclose-past-arrest-senate-confirmation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The DOJ<\/a> said all four suspects worked for different airlines but had for years used a special status with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/days-calling-abolish-tsa-sen-mike-lee-pulled-aside-going-airport-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transportation Safety Administration<\/a> to evade normal security procedures in order to smuggle drug money out of New York.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme reportedly began three years ago and the arrests were made with the help of two cooperating witnesses who were not named.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Hernandez, Sarah Valerio Pujols, Emmanuel Torres and Carol Fabio were all arrested on one count each of operation of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-megadonor-sbf-charged-with-donor-fraud-in-new-indictment\/\" title=\"Dem Megadonor SBF Charged With Donor Fraud in New Indictment\">unlicensed money transmission business<\/a> and one count each of entering an airport or aircraft area in violation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pentagon-approves-of-power-transfer-between-generals-in-afghanistan\/\" title=\"Pentagon approves of power transfer between generals in Afghanistan\">security requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pujols and Hernandez were also slapped with conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmission business charges while Pujols faced a separate charge of bulk cash smuggling.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the charges carries a maximum sentence of either five or 10 years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-fbi-official-linked-russiagate-probe-sentenced-4-years-foreign-conspiracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal prison<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/pr\/flight-attendants-charged-connection-smuggling-drug-money-dominican-republic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a news release<\/a>, the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York said the suspects abused a system that allows airline employees to board flights without the hassle of standard security.<\/p>\n<p>The release stated: \u201cAll of the defendants had \u2018Known Crewmember\u2019 (\u2018KCM\u2019) status with the Transportation Security Administration, which allowed them to pass through a special security lane at John F. Kennedy International Airport and other airports with less scrutiny than normal passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. attorney\u2019s office said the four suspects smuggled a combined $8 million to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-dominican-republic-president-openly-mocks-biden-face-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Dominican Republic<\/a> over a three-year period.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should those convicted of drug-related crimes face harsher punishment?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Additionally, the attorney\u2019s office noted that at least some of the cash originated from illicit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fentanyl-smoking-strip-used-bookmark-san-franciscos-main-library-taken-homeless-drug-addicts-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fentanyl<\/a> sales.<\/p>\n<p>The cash had allegedly been laundered in New York City before it was transported out of the country, the federal government said.<\/p>\n<p>The airlines the suspects were employed by were not named in the release.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement the arrests of the four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/extremely-violent-drunk-passenger-tests-flight-attendants-moments-later-whip-cable-ties-take-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flight attendants<\/a> are proof of the old adage that \u201ccrime doesn\u2019t pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs alleged, these flight attendants smuggled millions of dollars of drug money and law enforcement funds that they thought was drug money from the United States to the Dominican Republic over many years by abusing their privileges as airline employees,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cToday\u2019s charges should serve as a reminder to those who break the law by helping drug traffickers move their money that crime doesn\u2019t pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alleged scheme was uncovered in a joint effort by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-heroic-nypd-cops-scale-side-skyscraper-rescue-distressed-lady\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the New York City Police Department<\/a> and Homeland Security Investigations.<\/p>\n<p>HSI Special Agent in Charge Ivan J.
