Brave witnesses leaped into\u2063 the water\u2064 to assist. \u200cOngoing investigations \u2062and rescue \u200cefforts highlight\u2064 the gravity\u200d of \u200dthe \u2063situation, underscoring the call for support.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>Multiple Dead After Bus Loses Control, Plunges Into River<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/%20\"><span>Johnathan Jones<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 10, 2024 at 11:30am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>At least seven people died in the Russian city of \u00a0St. Petersburg on Friday when a passenger bus they were riding in crashed into a number of vehicles and ultimately plunged into a river.<\/p>\n<p>A viral video of the harrowing incident was caught by a nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gingerbread-man-seen-roaming-city-streets-security-cameras-catch-disturbing-move-reaches-home-doors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">security camera<\/a> and shows the bus was out of control as it veered into a retaining wall.<\/p>\n<p>The bus then made a rightward U-turn and clipped two passenger cars before going over a bridge and into the water below:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">At least 3 dead, several hospitalized after bus falls into river in St. Petersburg, Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8jo4ISnpbG\">pic.twitter.com\/8jo4ISnpbG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BNO News (@BNONews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BNONews\/status\/1788906438510731753?\">May 10, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bus was completely submerged in water in less than 10 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2024\/05\/10\/russia-bus-river-crash-st-petersburg\/a1b1c718-0ed2-11ef-ae0a-a6870885518d_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a> reported the bus crashed into the Moika River in the central part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/developing-officials-confirm-us-soldier-arrested-in-russia-last-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia\u2019s<\/a> second-largest city.<\/p>\n<p>A minimum of 15 people were on the bus when it entered the water and six of them were able to swim to the river bank on their own.<\/p>\n<p>Other reports claimed as many as 20 people were on the bus.<\/p>\n<p>Rescuers went into the waters for those who remained and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chile-indigenous-guerrilla-burns-down-31-homes-after-communist-wins-presidency\/\" title=\"Chile: Indigenous Guerrilla Burns Down 31 Homes After Communist Wins Presidency\">initial reports stated<\/a> three people were killed instantly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/bus-drives-off-bridge-terrifying-russia-video-1899318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a> reported the death toll had climbed to seven people by late Friday in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n<p>The St. Petersburg Transport Committee claimed the driver of the bus \u201clost control\u201d but did not say why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bus spun, he broke through the fence and fell into the water. Emergency services personnel and an ambulance are working at the scene,\u201d the committee told the local media.<\/p>\n<p>The committee added, \u201cAll victims will be provided with the necessary assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The driver\u2019s wife said he was detained by police quickly after the crash.<\/p>\n<p>She complained he had reported to work Friday for a morning shift after having worked 20 hours the day before, the Post reported, citing Russian state media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2024\/05\/10\/passenger-bus-plunges-into-st-petersburg-river-killing-4-a85090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Moscow Times<\/a> reported the driver was arrested and faces up to seven years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ex-marine-biden-left-behind-russian-prison-free-brittney-griner-attacked-inmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prison<\/a> if he is convicted of a crime.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian news outlet Fontanka reported that some people who witnessed the crash immediately jumped into the water in an attempt to offer lifesaving aid.<\/p>\n<p>A woman named Olga told the outlet, \u201cThey abandoned their cars, jumped out, everyone rushed into the water, no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/united-cajun-navy-calls-off-search-missing-teen-unsettling-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">search and rescue<\/a> operations had concluded as of late Friday while divers were still attempting to retrieve the bus from the river.<\/p>\n<p>The crash is under criminal investigation as is required by Russian law because more than two people died of what appeared to be negligence.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian state news agency Tass reported a court in St. Petersburg handed down a fine of 400,000 rubles \u2013 or roughly the equivalent of $4,300 \u2013 to the bus\u2019s owner Taxi LLC within hours of the crash<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
