Concerns were\u200c raised about the company&#8217;s limited business \u2064activity and lack of transparency, potentially violating federal rules. The use of\u2063 shell companies in political donations has sparked controversy and calls for greater \u200ddisclosure in \u2064campaign finance.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>An apparent shell company may have unlawfully directed almost $2.6 million to half a dozen political action committees linked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republicans<\/a>, according to a left-wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/watchdog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>watchdog<\/a> group.<\/p>\n<p>Ardleigh Impact, the company, made the super PAC donations from February to March of this year from an address in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Virginia<\/a>, Federal Election Commission filings show. However, given the short time span between its October 2023 incorporation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/delaware\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Delaware<\/a> and transfer of the cash in 2024, as well as the lack of publicly available information about Ardleigh Impact, Campaign Legal Center argued in an FEC complaint on Tuesday that the company likely hasn\u2019t conducted enough business to have generated the funds.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ocasio-cortezs-attendance-at-lavish-met-gala-draws-ethics-complaint\/\" title=\"Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s Attendance At Lavish Met Gala Draws Ethics Complaint\">watchdog group argued<\/a> to the top regulator, Ardleigh Impact violated federal rules by utilizing a \u201cstraw donor\u201d scheme that shields the source behind the initial cash. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters have a right to know who is spending money to influence them,\u201d said Saurav Ghosh, director of federal campaign finance reform at Campaign Legal Center. \u201cThat whole scheme is backed up by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-ethics-watchdog-will-file-complaint-requesting-investigation-into-ca-democrat-rudy-salas-campaign\/\" title=\"Exclusive: Ethics Watchdog Will File Complaint Requesting Investigation into CA Democrat Rudy Salas, Campaign\">federal reporting requirements<\/a> for candidates and committees. Shell companies have long been a problem in the political giving space, with three defense contractors in Hawaii being indicted in 2022 for allegedly funneling illegal contributions to boost Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/02\/10\/hawaii-contractors-charged-contributions-collins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The influx of corporate cash into super PACs has prompted left-of-center watchdogs to raise concerns frequently over so-called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dark-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>dark money<\/a>.\u201d To many Republicans, however, the term \u201cdark money\u201d has been weaponized by Democrats to refer merely to speech they disagree with that benefits the Right.<\/p>\n<p>Under federal law, super PACs can raise and spend unlimited sums. These committees have become mainstays in politics after the Supreme Court\u2019s <em>Citizens United v. FEC<\/em> decision, which held that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/first-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>First Amendment<\/a> to the Constitution prohibits restrictions on independent expenditures by groups.<\/p>\n<p>This election cycle, 730 companies have given a staggering $181.3 million to super PACs and hybrid PACs, according to OpenSecrets, a nonpartisan campaign finance tracker.<\/p>\n<p>Ardleigh Impact lists a Virginia address in federal records belonging to Michael Goede, an account manager at the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Staci Goede, ex-chief financial officer for the Republican State Leadership Committee \u2014 a group working to elect GOP candidates across the United States. <\/p>\n<p>The donations from the corporation were distributed to a group in favor of school voucher programs, a group supporting Republican Tim Sheehy\u2019s Senate bid against Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jon-tester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jon Tester<\/a> (D-MT), and two super PACs that supported Republican Ohio state Sen.
