The Justice Department filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court,\u2062 claiming the law violates the Constitution. Governor Reynolds signed the law citing border\u2063 security concerns,\u200b while Iowa&#8217;s Attorney General pledges to defend it \u2063against federal\u200c intervention. The Biden administration filed a lawsuit against Iowa for a \u2063law \u200denabling the state to \u2063detain and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/there-will-be-no-enforcement-sheriff-blasts-biden-for-dismantling-ice\/\" title=\"\u2018There Will Be No Enforcement\u2019: Sheriff Blasts Biden For \u2018Dismantling\u2019 ICE\">deport immigrants<\/a> with prior deportations or\u2062 entry denials. The \u200dJustice Department challenged the \u2064law \u200cin U.S. District Court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kentucky-gop-gets-win-as-state-supreme-court-upholds-new-congressional-boundaries\/\" title=\"Kentucky GOP victorious as state Supreme Court backs new congressional boundaries\">alleging constitutional violations<\/a>. Governor Reynolds \u200dendorsed the law \u2062for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">border security<\/a>, \u2063and Iowa&#8217;s Attorney General vowed to protect it from federal interference.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden administration<\/a> filed a lawsuit against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/iowa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa<\/a> on Thursday over a law that allows state authorities to arrest and deport immigrants in Iowa who have previously been deported or denied entry into the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/media\/1351436\/dl?inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suit<\/a>, filed by the Justice Department in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, says that the law violates the Constitution and asks that Iowa be blocked from enforcing the law. Governor Kim Reynolds (R) signed the measure into law last month, saying it was necessary because the Biden administration had failed to secure the border. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIowa cannot disregard the U.S. Constitution and settled Supreme Court precedent,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-files-lawsuit-against-state-iowa-regarding-unconstitutional-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton. \u201cWe have brought this action to ensure that Iowa adheres to the framework adopted by Congress and the Constitution for regulation of immigration.\u201d   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has promised to defend the law. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen Biden fails to do his job and secure our border, States have to take matters into their own hands. Iowa\u2019s law is not unique; it simply enforces immigration laws while Biden refuses to,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cIowa stands ready to defend our immigration law that keeps Iowa communities safe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The measure, SF 2340, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/iowa-gop-governor-signs-bill-allowing-state-authorities-to-arrest-deport-illegal-immigrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">creates<\/a> a penalty for \u201cillegal reentry,\u201d and illegal immigrants who break the law could face up to two years in prison and deportation. It is set to go into effect on July 1. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under the new state law, an immigrant could be guilty of a Class C felony and face up to 10 years in prison for illegally entering the country if he\/she was arrested for committing another felony. The law also requires Iowa judges to submit an order for a person convicted of illegally entering the U.S. to be returned to their home country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut Iowa cannot create its own immigration system. Its efforts, through SF 2340, intrude on the federal government\u2019s exclusive authority to regulate the entry and removal of noncitizens, frustrate the United States\u2019 immigration operations, and interfere with U.S. foreign relations,\u201d the DOJ argues in its lawsuit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other states, like Texas and Oklahoma, have passed similar laws cracking down on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-blue-state-claw-back\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Blue State Claw Back\">illegal immigration<\/a>.
