Concerns from\u200c DC \u2064senators about adding 10 slots at Reagan National \u200cAirport led to delays, \u2062but they relented just before a crucial deadline, enabling the bill&#8217;s passage.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\">Senate<\/a> passed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/inside-the-fight-to-kill-new-flights-at-lawmakers-favorite-airport\/\" title=\"The Battle to Halt New Flights at Lawmakers' Preferred Airport\">major aviation bill<\/a> on Thursday, marking an end to a monthslong fight over whether to add more flights to the nation\u2019s busiest runway.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, negotiators in both chambers unveiled a compromise bill that would reauthorize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/faa\/\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a> for another five years, but a provision to add 10 slots at Reagan National Airport prompted outrage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\">Washington, D.C.-area<\/a> senators, who warned the flights would cause delays and a risk to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The four senators, from Maryland and Virginia, held up passage for days, demanding a vote to strip out the slots, but they ultimately relented with a Friday deadline approaching for the current law to expire.<\/p>\n<p>The measure passed in a 88-4 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The House departed for the week on Wednesday, meaning the soonest it can get through Congress and to President Joe Biden\u2019s desk is Tuesday, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-passes-40b-ukraine-aid-package-moves-to-senate\/\" title=\"House passes B Ukraine aid package, moves to Senate\">lower chamber passed<\/a> a one-week extension to avoid a temporary lapse before it left.<\/p>\n<p>That extension, subject to separate objections from senators, must be considered on its own and has yet to pass the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Sen. Negotiators tweaked the legislation at the last minute to resolve a dispute over the Biden administration\u2019s airline refund policy.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, senators saw the reauthorization, one of the final must-pass bills of the current Congress, as a chance to attach unrelated provisions. As recently as Thursday afternoon, members from Maryland and Virginia were promising to use every \u201cprocedural right\u201d they had to force a vote on the flights.<\/p>\n<p>But they agreed to drop their holds with a simple gesture from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). He brought forward a compromise amendment that would have allowed the flights if the transportation secretary certifies they do not pose a safety hazard, but Sen.
