Nikki Haley&#8217;s lingering influence and support from\u200b GOP voters in Indiana and \u200bother\u2064 battleground states are\u2062 prompting concerns. The\u200d split in the party over\u2064 Haley&#8217;s \u200bvoters raises questions about the upcoming election&#8217;s dynamics. President Biden is actively courting Haley&#8217;s supporters, while potential \u2062VP \u200bpicks downplay their impact on Trump&#8217;s\u200b campaign success.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> is facing words of caution from within his party as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee narrows down his choice for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vice-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"vice president\">vice president<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With former GOP presidential rival <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nikki-haley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Nikki Haley\">Nikki Haley<\/a> continuing to chip away at his primary victory margins despite dropping out of the race two months ago, some Republicans are sounding the alarm for Trump to give more consideration to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fla-gov-ron-desantis-becoming-major-voice-for-gop\/\" title=\"Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis becoming major voice for GOP\">vice presidential pick<\/a> who can help close the gap with irritated supporters of the ex-South Carolina governor.<\/p>\n<p>The latest warning sign for Trump came this week when roughly 1 in 5 \u2014 nearly 22% \u2014 of GOP voters in Indiana\u2019s primary voted for Haley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s still a very sizable portion of the Republican Party that\u2019s insisting on a candidate who they can be proud of, on account of their character attributes and who promotes a policy agenda consistent with basic Reagan-era principles,\u201d Sen. Todd Young (R-IN), former chairman of Senate Republicans\u2019 campaign arm, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) suggested Trump\u2019s running mate could become the future of the party and present an opportunity to win over Haley voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe population we need to be going after is this 17% of people that are not voting for President Trump in a primary even though Nikki Haley is not even in the primary,\u201d Marshall said. \u201cThere\u2019s a group of Republicans out there that will play the long game. They want to know who\u2019s going to be the president after President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since Haley dropped out in early March after losing all but one state in Super Tuesday\u2019s primary races, she\u2019s still managed to clinch 13%-18% of the GOP electorate in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. The results have raised questions about whether her supporters in November will side with Trump or if they\u2019re willing to snub the ex-president by voting across party lines or sitting out the presidential contest altogether.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/2979476\/biden-new-play-haley-voters-rejected-trump-pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"courting Haley voters\">courting Haley voters<\/a>, with his campaign cutting ads in places like Pennsylvania that highlight Trump\u2019s derogatory nicknames and rhetoric about his former Republican opponent. <\/p>\n<p>Despite warnings from some in the GOP not to treat Haley voters as a foregone conclusion for Trump in the general election, other Republicans \u2014 including potential vice presidential picks \u2014 are banking on her supporters ultimately sticking with the party or playing little role.<\/p>\n<p>House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Sens. J.D. (AP Photo\/Morry Gash)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI know the media is obsessed about this [Haley\u2019s primary support], but look at the general election polls, Trump is sweeping,\u201d Stefanik told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cHe has over 90% of support among Republicans when it polls for the general election. \u2026 You see a cratering of support [for Biden] among Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance characterized votes for Haley as \u201cprotest ballots\u201d from those who were never going to support Trump in a primary and put little stock in the value of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pinkerton-joe-biden-and-john-kerrys-green-great-reset-punishes-america-rewards-china\/\" title=\"Pinkerton: Joe Biden and John Kerry\u2019s Green Great Reset Punishes America, Rewards China\">recent election results<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy personal view is that Donald Trump\u2019s going to win no matter who he picks,\u201d Rubio said. \u201cHe was the president before. People are going to vote based on that, but I think the criteria he said publicly is the right one, which is someone who\u2019s ready to be president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Vice President Mike Pence played a key role in Trump\u2019s 2016 victory and helped bolster his standing among evangelical voters with more traditional conservative values that contrasted the former president\u2019s more populist and unpolished rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a close ally to Trump, said he would approve of any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-knows-he-messed-up-on-fracking-at-debate-and-is-now-doing-damage-control-the-daily-wire\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Knows He Messed Up On Fracking At Debate And Is Now Doing Damage Control | The Daily Wire\">vice presidential candidate<\/a> who \u201cunderstands his agenda\u201d but who also \u201cmakes him more competitive.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) pleaded for Trump to choose anyone but a GOP senator for fear of handing a seat to Democrats in a special election, such as when Democrat Doug Jones was elected in 2017 to the seat vacated by then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who became Trump\u2019s attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Rubio and Vance, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is among Trump\u2019s top candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Potential picks outside of Congress include North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and former Democratic Rep. Mitt Romney (R-UT), the 2012 Republican presidential nominee who went on as senator to twice vote to convict Trump in Senate impeachment trials, has vowed not to vote for him in the election.
