This includes \u201ccertain commodities imported from Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mother\u2019s Day is one of the busiest weekends of the year in the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/thursd.com\/articles\/most-popular-holidays-in-the-flower-industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for flower sales and deliveries.<\/a> Last year, it was estimated that people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/619313\/us-mother-s-day-flower-expenditure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spent more than $3 billion<\/a> on flowers for Mother\u2019s Day. This included flowers imported into the country, which can pose a threat to the nation\u2019s \u201cagriculture and environment,\u201d\u00a0according to CBP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMother\u2019s Day is one of the busiest times of year for flower imports, which can carry pests and diseases that threaten U.S. agriculture and the environment,\u201d\u00a0read a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: 'Pipeline' to Obama Admin Seen as 'Currency'\">press release<\/a> from CBP. \u201cCertain flowers, greenery, potted plants, and soil are prohibited to prevent the introduction of plant diseases, invasive insects, and parasitic nematodes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The potential for the introduction of invasive pests and plant diseases that are unknowingly transported within flowers imported from another country is of particular concern, according to CBP. This is particularly problematic because it can negatively affect the ecosystem and cause significant damage to habitats throughout the country. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy their destructiveness, invasive plant diseases, and pests reduce the quality of ornamental plants and crops and cost millions in eradication efforts and export trade restrictions,\u201d the press release noted.<\/p>\n<p>One of the plants that CBP mentioned was chrysanthemums, a \u201ccommon cut flower\u201d from Mexico. These are some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegardengurus.tv\/story.php?id=4608\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most popular flowers<\/a> given for Mother\u2019s Day. The CBP warned that these plants are banned from being brought into the country through passenger ports of entry. A fungus known as \u201cchrysanthemum white rust\u201d\u00a0is prevalent in such flowers, and it can result in a floral disease that is devastating to crops and could \u201cput flower growers in jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CBP also warned of different kinds of greenery used to fill bouquets and enhance the aesthetic appeal of floral arrangements.
