The Liberty Justice Center \u200dfiled a lawsuit after unsuccessful private\u200c attempts to resolve the issue. Leah McGhee, a North Carolina mother, had to sue the school board\u200b for suspending her\u200b son for using the \u200dterm &#8220;illegal alien.&#8221; The suspension caused him to miss track meets, leading the family to pull him from the school. It\u2019s Time to Level Up.\">term \u201cillegal alien<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leah McGhee, the mother of a Central Davidson High School <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">student<\/a>, said her son\u2019s English teacher assigned various vocabulary words in April, with one of them being \u201calien.\u201d Her son had asked for clarification on the word, questioning whether it was referencing \u201cspace aliens or illegal aliens without green cards.\u201d This prompted the school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2969865\/north-carolina-student-suspended-using-term-illegal-alien\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>to suspend McGhee\u2019s son for three days<\/a>. McGhee has argued that the suspension caused her son to miss several important track meets, with the family choosing to remove their son from the school.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/libertyjusticecenter.org\/pressrelease\/fighting-for-free-speech-the-liberty-justice-center-sues-north-carolina-school-board-for-wrongly-suspending-student-for-question-about-aliens-who-need-green-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Liberty Justice Center<\/a>, came about a month later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have asked the school to handle this privately for weeks,\u201d McGhee said on Fox News\u2019s <em>Fox &#038; Friends<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019ve emailed the school board for four weeks. I\u2019ve had no response from the school board. And since \u2026 we had no resolution, we had no other choice but to file a lawsuit and take this public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McGhee also said that her son has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kylie-jenner-criticized-on-twitter-after-asking-for-donations-for-injured-makeup-artist-eat-the-rich\/\" title=\"Kylie Jenner Criticized On Twitter After Asking For Donations For Injured Makeup Artist: \u2018Eat The Rich\u2019\">received accusations<\/a> of racism in the wake of his suspension but that the community they live in has shifted to their side after she spoke at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>school<\/a> board meeting on Monday night. Steve Jarvis contacted the school district\u2019s superintendent to inform him of the situation.
