Graham pressed Austin \u2014 and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Charles Q. I\u2019m not asking, they did it. What would you say?\u201d Graham clarified his question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you know, I think the leadership was interested in curtailing \u2014\u201d Austin tried to explain further, but Graham pressed on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s Israel interested in? Do you believe Iran really wants to kill all the Jews if they could? The Iranian regime. Do you believe Hamas is serious when they say we\u2019ll keep doing it over and over again? Do you agree that they will if they can?\u201d the South Carolina senator asked.<\/p>\n<p>Austin\u2019s reply was simple: \u201cI do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay. Alright. Do you believe that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization also bent on the destruction of the Jewish state?\u201d Graham asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHezbollah is a terrorist organization,\u201d Austin agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay, so Israel\u2019s been hit in the last few weeks by Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas dedicated to their destruction. And you\u2019re telling me you\u2019re going to tell them how to fight the war?\u201d Graham asked in apparent disbelief. \u201cAnd what they can and can\u2019t use when everybody around them wants to kill all the Jews. And you\u2019re telling me that if we withhold weapons in this fight \u2014 the existential fight for the life of the Jewish state \u2014 it won\u2019t send the wrong signal? \u2026 If we stop weapons necessary to destroy the enemies of the State of Israel at a time of great peril, we will pay a price. This is obscene. It is absurd. Give Israel what they need to fight the war. They can\u2019t afford to lose.
