The\u2063 bill, Senate Bill 189 (SB189), focuses on enhancing voter roll\u2063 maintenance\u2064 and other reforms. Georgia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">election laws<\/a> have been extensively discussed, with SB189 being one of the key modifications following the 2020 election scrutiny.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brian-kemp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Brian Kemp\">Brian Kemp<\/a> (R-GA) signed a new election law, adding to the several already signed since the 2021 legislative session, spurred by concerns from Democrats and Republicans about voting processes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Peach State\">Peach State<\/a> following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2020-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"2020 election\">2020 election<\/a>. The state is expected to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-in-key-battlegrounds-are-refusing-to-debate-republican-opponents\/\" title=\"Democrats In Key Battlegrounds Are Refusing To Debate Republican Opponents\">pivotal race<\/a> again for President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in November.<\/p>\n<p>The bill signed by Kemp on Tuesday, SB189, attempts to improve cleaning voter rolls, among other changes. There have been <a href=\"https:\/\/tracker.votingrightslab.org\/pending\/search\/state\/georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>over<\/a> 40 bills targeting election law reform introduced in Georgia\u2019s state legislature, but SB189 and one other made the most significant modifications to the state\u2019s law since the 2020 backlash.<\/p>\n<h2>Senate Bill 202 \u2014 2021<\/h2>\n<p>SB 202 has been one of the most publicized laws passed in the Peach State in recent years, garnering fierce backlash from Democrats. <\/p>\n<p>The law prevents advocates from giving food, drinks, and gifts to voters in line. It also requires showing a state-issued ID when applying for absentee ballots and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/private-university-students-accused-of-abuse-dont-have-right-to-cross-examine-accusers-california-supreme-court\/\" title=\"CA Supreme Court: Private university students accused of abuse lack right to cross-examine accusers.\">outlines procedures<\/a> for early and mail-in voting. It was first put into use during the 2022 elections, which state officials heralded as a success thanks to high turnout for the midterm contests.<\/p>\n<p>Biden decried the legislation as \u201cJim Crow in the 21st century,\u201d and MLB pulled its 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta, citing its opposition to the law. Two years later, MLB announced the 2025 game would be held in Atlanta despite SB 202 remaining in effect.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s administration and Democratic-aligned activist groups have unsuccessfully attempted to get courts to strike down the law.<\/p>\n<h2>Senate Bill 189 \u2014 2024<\/h2>\n<p>SB 189 was signed into law by Kemp on Tuesday and offered several changes to election law ahead of the hotly contested November elections.<\/p>\n<p>The bill outlines probable cause provisions to determine whether a voter should be removed from the rolls. These provisions include evidence of voting or registering somewhere else, using a nonresidential address, or indicating a primary residence somewhere else. SB 189 also removes the state\u2019s secretary of state from the state board of elections.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the changes signed into law in this bill will go into effect on July 1, months before the pivotal November election in which Biden and Trump will battle for the state\u2019s 16 electoral votes.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
