The House Energy \u200dand Commerce Committee\u2063 proceeded \u200dwith the hearing, emphasizing the importance of impartial investigation into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-grants-26-pardons-and-3-commutations-includes-numerous-prominent-names\/\" title=\"Trump Grants 26 Pardons And 3 Commutations, Includes Numerous Prominent Names\">political bias<\/a>, even with NPR&#8217;s reliance on public funding.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The top executive at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/npr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>NPR<\/a> failed to appear at a congressional hearing designed to examine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/2969586\/defund-npr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>alleged bias<\/a> at the news outlet despite being funded by taxpayer dollars. <\/p>\n<p>Katherine Maher, who was named CEO of NPR earlier this year, said she declined the invitation to testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee\u00a0due to a scheduling conflict. The committee went through with the hearing in Maher\u2019s absence, arguing it was crucial to investigate any instances of political bias despite relying on public support from the taxpayer-funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will note for the record, we invited NPR\u2019s CEO, Ms. Maher, to participate in today\u2019s hearing. She has declined to do so stating that she needed more time to prepare and that she had a conflict with an NPR board meeting,\u201d committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) <a href=\"https:\/\/energycommerce.house.gov\/posts\/chair-rodgers-opening-remarks-at-hearing-on-ideological-bias-at-npr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said in her opening statement.<\/a> \u201cThe Energy and Commerce Committee will fulfill its responsibility to investigate the allegations against NPR and take appropriate action based on what we find.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hearing comes after a former senior editor of the network published an essay accusing NPR of allowing left-leaning politics to influence how it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stock-futures-nudge-higher-on-credit-suisse-buyout\/\" title=\"Stock futures nudge higher on Credit Suisse buyout\">covers major events<\/a> in recent years, including its coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, Republicans\u2019 investigation of Hunter Biden, and other stories coming out of the Biden administration. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/npr-editor-how-npr-lost-americas-trust\">wrote <\/a>Uri Berliner, who worked at NPR from 1999 until April of this year. \u201cIn recent years, however, that has changed.
