The court granted a defense \u2062request for review, focusing on a conflict of interest due to the relationship. Trump and co-defendants sought Willis&#8217; disqualification, citing an appearance of impropriety.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A Georgia appellate court agreed on Wednesday to hear a challenge to the ruling that allowed Fulton County District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fulton-county-prosecutors-have-another-recording-of-trump-pressuring-georgia-house-speaker-to-overturn-election-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fani Willis<\/a> to continue leading a 2020 election interference case against former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> and his allies despite her romance with a subordinate.<\/p>\n<p>The Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia released a <a href=\"https:\/\/efast.gaappeals.us\/download?filingId=f0b48054-798d-4781-8f95-d1f87666ab6d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brief order<\/a> that said the request from the defense seeking a review of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-race-based-admissions-to-nations-top-high-school-students-drop-out-and-underperform-at-record-rates\/\" title=\"After Race-Based Admissions To Nation\u2019s Top High School, Students Drop Out And Underperform At Record Rates\">lower-court decision<\/a> in March had been granted and noted the appellant may file a notice of appeal within 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>At issue is Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee\u2019s determination that the defendants failed to prove a conflict of interest existed due to a romance between Willis and her special prosecutor in the case, Nathan Wade. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wyoming-governor-signs-bill-banning-abortion-pills-in-the-state\/\" title=\"Wyoming governor signs bill banning abortion pills in the state\">judge raised concerns<\/a> about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/03\/15\/georgia-trump-fani-willis-wade-relationship-ruling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cappearance of impropriety\u201d<\/a> and only allowed Willis to press forward after Wade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nathan-wade-steps-down-as-special-prosecutor-in-trump-georgia-case-following-judges-ruling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned<\/a>. Her other option was to step down.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and some of his co-defendants <a href=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/newsgraphics\/documenttools\/daa8595470bc27ca\/0f310db3-full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> that Willis should be disqualified and that the case be dismissed, claiming the office romance flush with gifts and trips \u201ccreated an appearance of impropriety in this case that cast a pall over these entire proceedings.\u201d Willis then filed a motion insisting there was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/special-reports\/ga-trump-investigation\/fulton-county-da-court-appeals-decline-review-disqualification-ruling\/85-43861f0b-9934-4ab7-8d21-591ab3332656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cno basis\u201d<\/a> to grant a review of the lower-court order.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2024\/05\/08\/georgia-appeals-court-fani-willis-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Trump and his co-defendants are expected to ask the appeals to stay the proceedings while the appeal plays out after McAfee said he would not pause the process. A trial date has not yet been set, but CNN reported Willis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/03\/21\/politics\/fani-willis-trump-georgia-trial\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hoped<\/a> to have it before the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and 18 co-defendants pleaded not guilty to a bevy of charges in the Georgia election case, but four of them have since taken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/fourth-trump-co-defendant-takes-plea-deal-in-georgia-election-interference-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plea deals<\/a>. As Trump seeks a second White House term, the former president has broadly denied wrongdoing across multiple cases. One election-related \u201chush money\u201d case in New York has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/where-all-the-trump-cases-stand-as-hush-money-trial-begins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gone to trial<\/a> while a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-judge-indefinitely-postpones-trumps-classified-documents-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">delayed<\/a> a federal classified documents case trial indefinitely. She\u00a0recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fani-willis-misses-da-debate-gets-replaced-by-empty-podium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">skipped<\/a> a debate, leaving her challenger for the Democratic Party\u2019s nomination in the DA race, attorney Christian Wise Smith, to face off against an empty podium. Her office declined the invitation, citing concerns about Willis being limited in what she could say regarding ongoing litigation.
