Bob Good (R-VA) is set to introduce a bill to exempt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"gun\">gun<\/a> silencers from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"gun\">federal regulation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Silencers Help Us Save Hearing Act would completely deregulate suppressors at the federal level, eliminate penalties associated with owning a suppressor, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/colorado-democrats-introduce-assault-style-weapons-ban\/\" title=\"Colorado Democrats introduce assault-style weapons ban\">permit current<\/a> and retired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>law enforcement<\/a> to carry concealed silenced firearms. Speaking with the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, Good said that the bill was not just about protecting the Second Amendment but that it would also help cut bureaucracy in acquiring the accessory.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Rep. No constitutional right should be at risk due to public opinion, or subject to regulatory and tax burdens,\u201d he said. \u201cThese rights certainly extend to the procurement of safety accessories for firearms. My legislation would eliminate the overly complicated and antiquated process for acquiring suppressors and ensure that those purchases are no longer subject to federal regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silencers, interchangeably known as suppressors, are cylindrical devices attached to the barrel of firearms to reduce the sound and muzzle flash created by a firearm. <\/p>\n<p>Contrary to popular belief and portrayals in popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>media<\/a>, silencers don\u2019t eliminate or even necessarily drastically reduce the sound produced by firearms. Rather, they reduce the sound made by guns to a tolerable level to prevent hearing damage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Current regulations under the National Firearms Act require that individuals obtain approval for the purchase of the accessory; register it with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and pay a $200 tax. The resulting delays mean customers can experience delays of up to a year or more.<\/p>\n<p>Some states and territories ban silencers altogether, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/California\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>California<\/a>, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia.
