Trump faces\u200d contempt\u200d charges \u200cfor breaching the order.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/%20\"><span>Randy DeSoto<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 8, 2024 at 5:30am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump sidestepped New York Judge Juan Merchan\u2019s gag order by reading news reports critical of the \u201chush money\u201d case being brought against him.<\/p>\n<p>Before entering the Manhattan court house Tuesday morning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/just-judge-hands-trump-massive-win-suspends-trial-classified-documents-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> pulled out a piece of paper and read assessments of the trial from mostly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/medias-coverage-of-crises-under-biden-would-look-a-lot-different-if-trump-were-in-office\/\" title=\"Media\u2019s Coverage of Crises Under Biden Would Look A Lot Different If Trump Were In Office\">left-leaning news outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He first cited CNN legal analyst Michael Moore, who said, \u201cThe proof of falsifying records has not been accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">CNN: Proof of Falsifying Records \u201cHas Not Been Accomplished Yet\u201d<\/p>\n<p>THIS IS ELECTION INTERFERENCE. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aCGEVeXEGo\">pic.twitter.com\/aCGEVeXEGo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1787841614888481039?\">May 7, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump continued, saying, \u201cOn \u2018Good Morning America,\u2019 they said, \u2018We heard that expense payments to lawyers are legal expenses.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou pay a lawyer expenses payments,\u201d the former president then explained. \u201cWe didn\u2019t put it down as construction costs, the purchase of sheet rock, the electrical cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legal expense that we paid was put down as legal expense. There\u2019s nothing else you could say. You don\u2019t have to put down anything, I guess. But we put down legal expense,\u201d Trump continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the fraud. That\u2019s what they\u2019re trying to get us on. The fact that we called a legal expense, a legal expense,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Bragg has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/levin-no-underlying-crime-listed-trump-indictment-didnt-anything\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charged Trump<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt? Experts Weigh In\">falsifying business records<\/a> by listing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/barr-calls-braggs-case-trump-abomination-says-will-vote-former-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$130,000 non-disclosure agreement<\/a> with porn star Stormy Daniels as legal expense payments made to his former personal attorney Michael Cohen.<\/p>\n<p>Nondisclosure agreements are very common and <a href=\"https:\/\/legal.thomsonreuters.com\/en\/insights\/articles\/4-things-to-know-about-non-disclosure-agreements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">generally legal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Daniels testified Tuesday that she and Trump had a sexual encounter in 2006, which he has denied, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-trial-hush-money-gag-order-d853768fff5fafbdee55623579889140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">THE COUNTRY IS ON FIRE: There are protests all over the country. I\u2019ve never seen anything like this. Many graduation ceremonies are being canceled.<\/p>\n<p>And we have a president that just refuses to talk because he can\u2019t talk, you know that and so does everyone else. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AI2HOpK1tC\">pic.twitter.com\/AI2HOpK1tC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1787841214403752419?\">May 7, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Tuesday, Trump also cited a report on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018The challenge is that there is no smoking gun, no email or tape to prove the president\u2019s intent. They don\u2019t have a way to prove that.\u2019 That\u2019s NBC \u2018Today\u2019 show,\u201d the Republican said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump then argued, \u201cThey have no case. Every single legal scholar that I see, I mean, maybe there\u2019s somebody out there, some whack job. But for virtually \u2026 everyone that I\u2019ve seen has said there\u2019s absolutely no case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a case that shouldn\u2019t have been brought. The previous D.A. wouldn\u2019t bring it. Bragg didn\u2019t want to bring it. And then he brought it because I\u2019m running and in number one place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Merchan issued a gag <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/LegacyPDFS\/press\/PDFs\/PeopleDJT-DecOrderExtrajudicial.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">order<\/a>, which bars Trump from making public statements about any witnesses who are reasonably foreseeable of testifying at the trial, or discussing members of District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s staff or the court\u2019s staff or their family members, or making statements about the jurors.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is allowed to criticize Bragg and Merchan himself. Last month, the judge <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-gag-order-hush-money-juan-merchan-f182e7d5c27967b86a59277fd24743e4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expanded<\/a> the order to include his own family.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/02\/nyregion\/trump-trial-judge-daughter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> on numerous occasions that the judge is conflicted and called for his <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2024\/04\/07\/juan-merchan-judge-trump-hush-money-trial-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recusal<\/a> because Merchan\u2019s daughter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-judge-refuses-demand-step-aside-dismisses-accusations-bias-donations-democrats-exposed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Loren Merchan<\/a>, is president of Authentic Campaigns, whose past clients include Joe Biden\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/30\/us-news\/dem-clients-of-daughter-of-judge-in-trump-trial-raised-90m-off-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> New York Post<\/a> reported in March that Loren Merchan\u2019s firm has used the Trump\u2019s trial before her father\u2019s court in email solicitations to help raise millions in campaign donations for Democratic candidates.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/LegacyPDFS\/press\/PDFs\/DOcontempt_5-6-24FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled<\/a> Trump was in contempt of the gag order for the tenth time for mentioning the jury is made up of Democrats.
