Smith&#8217;s \u200backnowledgment of evidence tampering came shortly before the order.\u2064 The\u200c case pertains to\u200c accusations\u200b of mishandling classified documents by the ex-president.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon postponed Special Counsel Jack Smith\u2019s classified document lawfare case against former President Donald Trump indefinitely, days after the Department of Justice admitted it tampered with evidence. <\/p>\n<p>Cannon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/trump-cannon-order-trial-date.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued an order<\/a> Tuesday that announced the schedule for the \u201csecond set of pre-trial deadlines\u201d to address evidentiary issues and arguments from the Trump team for dismissing the case. Missing from the schedule, however, was a new date for the trial, which was previously set to begin May 20.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/30\/jack-smiths-rush-to-try-trump-before-november-is-obvious-election-meddling-stefanik-complaint-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jack Smith\u2019s Rush To Try Trump Before November Is \u2018Obvious\u2019 Election Meddling, Stefanik Complaint Says<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court also determines that finalization of a trial date at this juncture \u2014 before resolution of the myriad and interconnected pre-trial and CIPA [Classified Information Procedures Act] issues remaining and forthcoming \u2014 would be imprudent and inconsistent with the Court\u2019s duty to fully and fairly consider the various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judge-indefinitely-postpones-trumps-classified-documents-trial\/\" title=\"Federal Judge Delays Trump's Classified Documents Trial indefinitely\">pending pre-trial motions<\/a> before the Court, critical CIPA issues, and additional pretrial and trial preparations necessary to present this case to a jury,\u201d Cannon wrote in the order.  <\/p>\n<p>Cannon\u2019s order comes days after Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/67490070\/522\/united-states-v-trump\/\">admitted<\/a> that federal prosecutors tampered with evidence in his case against Trump, which argues the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-trump-defense-secretary-breaks-with-ex-president-over-classified-documents\/\" title=\"Former Trump defense secretary disagrees with ex-president on classified documents.\">president mishandled classified documents<\/a>. As independent journalist Julie Kelly pointed out on X, prosecutors admitted in a court filing Friday that some of the documents seized during the FBI\u2019s unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago are not in the same order in which they were found. Others may have been mislabeled or possibly misplaced entirely, as my colleague Tristan Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/06\/filings-jack-smith-tampered-with-evidence-in-get-trump-classified-documents-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Jack Smith confessed as much in yesterday&#8217;s filing.
