President Joe Biden&#8217;s tenure has been defined by extraordinary unpopularity. Battling dismal \u2062confidence \u2063in his economic\u200b leadership, Biden grapples with criticism over\u2063 contentious \u2064choices and the pursuit of votes on\u200c divisive matters. In comparison\u2063 to former President Trump&#8217;s more favorable\u2062 ratings, Biden&#8217;s \u200bterm unfolds in a climate of division, accentuated by\u2064 controversial foreign policy positions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>There is no denying that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"President Joe Biden\">President Joe Biden<\/a>\u2019s first term in office has been historic, at least in the sense that he is historically unpopular.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has two of the three lowest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/polls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"polling\">polling<\/a> results in Gallup\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/644750\/confidence-biden-economic-stewardship-historically-low.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"the economy,\">measuring<\/a> of people\u2019s confidence in the president \u201cto do the right thing for the U.S. economy\u201d since 2001. Just 38% polled this year trust Biden on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"the economy,\">the economy,<\/a> up from his 35% number last year. The only president with a worse number was George W. Bush at 34% in 2008. No other president in any other year has a number lower than 42%.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump is polling at 46% on this issue, which also happens to be the most important election topic to voters. Trump leads independents over Biden on this issue, 45%-33%.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has spent his presidency embracing unpopular subjects or chasing votes on issues people don\u2019t really compare about. His constant pandering to terrorist sympathizers on the Israel-Hamas war is a prime example, as Biden chases a small chunk of voters in Michigan by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/2993160\/biden-wants-to-keep-hamas-on-life-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"undermining\">undermining<\/a> Israel while the vast majority of the country <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/international\/4629597-americans-israel-hamas-gaza-student-protests-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"backs\">backs<\/a> Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Or take his outsize focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-reasons-making-taxpayers-pay-off-student-loans-is-a-rotten-idea\/\" title=\"5 Reasons Making Taxpayers Pay Off Student Loans Is A Rotten Idea\">student debt<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elon-musk-i-got-a-covid-test-four-times-in-one-day-two-came-back-negative-two-came-back-positive-the-daily-wire\/\" title=\"Elon Musk: I Got A COVID Test Four Times In One Day. \u2018Two Came Back Negative, Two Came Back Positive.\u2019 | The Daily Wire\">climate change<\/a>, two topics that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2024\/05\/01\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-59\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"again\">again<\/a> named last week as ones that Biden \u201cknows that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservative-group-launches-messaging-campaign-against-biden-student-loan-push\/\" title=\"Conservative Group Opposes Biden's Student Loan Plan\">young people care<\/a> about.\u201d But climate change <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/2979694\/biden-pandering-young-voters-on-issues-most-dont-care-about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"again\">ranks<\/a> 12th out of 16 issues that young people care most about, according to a Harvard poll, whereas the economy ranks first. He sees himself as some grand, historic statesman who is going to change the course of history every time he speaks (on the rare occasions he does so), as evidenced by <em>Politico\u2019s<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/06\/joe-biden-speech-tentpole-address-00156414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"detailing\">detailing<\/a> of his \u201cgo-big approach.\u201d Meanwhile, everyone else sees him as a doddering, incompetent man who can\u2019t keep up with the demands of the job and isn\u2019t focused on any issues that people actually care about.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s unpopularity is historic enough that Trump, the man Biden beat in 2020 who is himself historically unpopular, is leading in several polls, including in swing states, in a way you would not expect from a candidate running against an incumbent.
