Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 7, 2024 at 8:03am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Anti-Trump Republicans come up with plenty of excuses for supporting President Joe Biden in spite of the fact he stands in opposition to everything these individuals were elected or hired as Republicans to effectuate.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, they may say, they don\u2019t necessarily <em>agree<\/em> with Biden or what the president has spent his life promoting, but he \u201crespects norms.\u201d Or it\u2019s about being \u201cpro-democracy.\u201d Or he\u2019s really not as liberal as we all \u2014 including Biden himself \u2014 like to think he is. Whatever.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the reasons for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bob-ehrlich-next-nevertrumpers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NeverTrumpers<\/a> to vote for Biden, however, one that I hadn\u2019t really heard before Monday was that Joseph Robinette Biden was a \u201cdecent person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Credit Geoff Duncan, the Republican former lieutenant governor of the swing state of Georgia, for that nugget of unintentional hilarity.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan served as lieutenant governor between 2019 to 2023 but declined to run for a second term, likely due to the fact that his animus toward former President Donald Trump was so great and so public he\u2019d almost certainly lose in the primary.<\/p>\n<p>If you remember hearing his name in the headlines recently, it\u2019s likely because the centrist political group\/party No Labels was looking to settle upon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/third-party-considering-running-former-gop-lt-governor-trump-biden-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duncan as a presidential candidate<\/a> after being rebuffed by virtually everyone with a national profile.<\/p>\n<p>(In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/no-labels-2024-third-party-biden-trump-c7477857e1dd05535326b8850f4500a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> reported, the group ended its 2024 presidential bid after two major setbacks: failing to draw a big enough name to top the ticket and the death of co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/just-former-us-senator-vp-candidate-joe-lieberman-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Lieberman<\/a>, the former Democratic\/independent senator from Connecticut, in late March.)<\/p>\n<p>However, Duncan was not going to go quietly into that good political night, at least not during this election cycle. In an Op-Ed published Monday in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/opinion\/geoff-duncan-why-im-voting-for-biden-and-other-republicans-should-too\/LFLE5YWCBBA6VDGJAJKMNPCDKQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/a>, he laid out \u201cWhy I\u2019m voting for Biden and other Republicans should, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing to watch an increasing number of Republicans fall in line behind former president Donald Trump,\u201d Duncan began. \u201cThis includes some of his fiercest detractors, such as U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, who raised eyebrows during a recent interview by vowing to support the \u2018Republican ticket.\u2019 This mentality is dead wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, I\u2019d just like to note that the former lieutenant governor basically set the tone for the entire rotten piece in those three sentences alone.<\/p>\n<p>What \u201cmentality\u201d has Duncan described that unites the decisions of McConnell, Sununu and Barr to announce they\u2019ll support Trump in November?<\/p>\n<p>None, of course.\u00a0He just listed three notable Republicans who don\u2019t particularly like Trump but said they\u2019ll be voting for him.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, despite failing to identify any single \u201cmentality\u201d that led to these tepid endorsements of the presumptive GOP nominee, Duncan assures us that it\u2019s \u201cdead wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The logic, such as he presents it, gets no better from there. Duncan admits that \u201celections are a binary choice,\u201d that \u201cserious questions linger about President Biden\u2019s ability to serve until the age of 86\u201d and that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-tax-hike-11-states-50-capital-gains-rate-drastic-new-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he\u2019ll continue<\/a> to push \u201cprogressive policies [that] aren\u2019t to conservatives\u2019 liking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the former lieutenant governor assures us that we have to save the Republican Party by delivering the country over for another four years to a senile wreck of a man whose political sensibilities have far more in common with the pro-Hamas, anti-Semitic rabblement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/columbia-caves-mob-cancels-main-graduation-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overrunning college campuses<\/a> (before they demand student loan forgiveness, of course) than with those of any sensible Republican.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan claimed that \u201cthe GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden. At the same time, we should work to elect GOP congressional majorities to block his second-term legislative agenda and provide a check and balance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe alternative is another term of Trump, a man who has disqualified himself through his conduct and his character. The headlines are ablaze with his hush-money trial over allegations of improper record-keeping for payments to conceal an affair with an adult-film star.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These charges, pursued by publicity-happy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/legal-expert-says-alvin-braggs-first-choice-witness-trump-trial-telling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg<\/a> are, of course, politicized lawn fertilizer \u2014 and one assumes Duncan is fully aware of that fact if he\u2019s been paying attention to these things.<\/p>\n<p>But then he brings in the big guns: \u201cTrump fanned the flames of unfounded conspiracy theories that led to the horrific events of Jan. 6, 2021. He refuses to admit he lost the last election and has hinted he might do so again after the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s views on the election of 2020 are indeed a matter that requires scrutiny from voters, but the idea that his \u201cconspiracy theories \u2026 led to the horrific events of Jan. 6, 2021\u201d does not; the idea that he incited the small group who went to the Capitol and infiltrated the building has collapsed, in the three years hence, under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/secret-service-drivers-account-jan-6-just-demolished-anti-trump-forces-say-happened-armored-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weightlessness of the evidence<\/a> that the former president desired, aided or abetted the incursion.<\/p>\n<p>The Op-Ed rambles on for a few more paragraphs in the same vein: Yes, Biden will be bad for America, you\u2019ll be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-biden-policies-would-make-tax-system-more-progressive-while-cutting-economic-growth\/\" title=\"Report: Biden Policies Would Make Tax System \u2018More Progressive\u2019 While Cutting Economic Growth\">paying higher taxes<\/a> and insane progressives will continue to throw those \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-mocked-labeling-kenosha-mostly-peaceful-footage-showed-opposite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiery but mostly peaceful<\/a>\u201d protests we\u2019ve become accustomed to since the summer of 2020. But, Duncan says, the GOP needs to heal \u2014 and our healing requires four more years of pain as we try our best to block the plans of a senescent fabricator by electing a Republican Congress instead. (No Freedom Caucus types, though, I\u2019m assuming.)<\/p>\n<p>But then he ends it with this fantastic line: \u201cThis November, I am voting <strong>for a decent person I disagree with<\/strong> on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass.\u201d (Emphasis ours.)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Read my latest <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ajc?\">@AJC<\/a> oped on why I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RVTtgt1Ri3\">https:\/\/t.co\/RVTtgt1Ri3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Geoff Duncan (@GeoffDuncanGA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeoffDuncanGA\/status\/1787515597472895244?\">May 6, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Really?<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s go with that final thought \u2014 the idea of a Republican casting his ballot for Joe Biden in a generally conservative swing state because of the president\u2019s inherent decency.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you disagree with this take from Geoff Duncan?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>First, the bleeding obvious: Biden is a serial liar. He doesn\u2019t just lie about strange stuff \u2014 although he does indeed lie about strange stuff, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/not-joke-npr-station-says-bidens-drama-free-white-house-christmas-gift-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corn Pop<\/a> being a bad dude to his uncle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-claims-cannibals-ate-uncle-military-records-tell-different-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">being eaten by cannibals<\/a> to being a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-tells-story-big-mama-truck-driver-repeats-false-claim-drove-18-wheeler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-truck-driver-who-spent-153-on-campaign-locked-in-tight-race-with-new-jerseys-democrat-senate-president\/\" title=\"Republican Truck Driver Who Spent 3 On Campaign Locked In Tight Race With New Jersey\u2019s Democrat Senate President\">commercial truck driver<\/a><\/a> who participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-biden-tells-sick-lie-role-civil-rights-movement-right-faces-mlks-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Civil Rights movement<\/a>, etc. He also lies about far more poisonous things, too.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of truck drivers, let\u2019s not forget that Biden has repeatedly told the lie that the truck driver who was in an accident with his first wife that killed her and their daughter, Naomi, was drunk at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n<p>When he told the lies, furthermore, the truck driver was long since deceased, leaving him no avenue to defend himself.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/always-remember-joe-biden-misled-everyone-wifes-death-blamed-innocent-man-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">judge in the case<\/a> not only confirmed there was no evidence that the truck driver was intoxicated but intimated that Biden\u2019s wife, tragic though the accident may have been for her and her family, was indeed responsible for it.<\/p>\n<p>Is this your definition of a decent man, Mr. Duncan \u2014 a politician who impugns an innocent truck driver by smearing his name because it makes for an interesting story on the campaign trail? Or is that just one of your \u201cdisagreements\u201d with the president? I\u2019d say that speaks to his decency more than anything else, but maybe you\u2019re a little fuzzy on the definition of the word.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe you\u2019re fuzzy on the lies he\u2019s told about his family\u2019s business matters.<\/p>\n<p>For the entirety of the 2020 campaign, Biden swore upon a stack of copies of Barack Obama\u2019s \u201cThe Audacity of Hope\u201d that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-biden-entertained-hunters-billionaire-business-partners-vp-office-flew-son-mexico-city-af2-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he knew nothing<\/a> \u2014 <em>nothing!<\/em> \u2014 about his family\u2019s peculiar foreign corporate dealings. Then came the leak of son Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop in the waning weeks of the 2020 campaign, which seemed to demonstrate Joe Biden knew <em>plenty<\/em> about it.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed during the subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/russian-involvement-biden-laptop-unproven\/2020\/10\/24\/ebae1760-1604-11eb-ba42-ec6a580836ed_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presidential debates<\/a> that the Hunter laptop was a Russian disinformation trick. This too was a lie, something every respectable media organization has more or less acknowledged at this point.<\/p>\n<p>And, despite the fact that Hunter could have \u2014 and should have \u2014 been charged by Biden\u2019s Department of Justice with a slew of tax and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-liberals-rush-to-defense-of-fentanyl-dealing-illegal-immigrants\/\" title=\"San Francisco Liberals Rush to Defense of Fentanyl-Dealing Illegal Immigrants\">gun charges stemming<\/a> in part from his work abroad, he was given a sweetheart deal by the DOJ that only collapsed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hunter-bidens-sweetheart-plea-deal-now-investigated-house-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when the judge rejected it<\/a>, saying it was \u201cnot standard, not what I normally see,\u201d possibly \u201cnot worth the paper it is printed on,\u201d and so unprecedented as to potentially be unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>It finally took a special counsel for the first son to be charged with something an independent DOJ ought to have been pursuing in court since day one.<\/p>\n<p>Is this your definition of decency, Mr. Duncan?<\/p>\n<p>Or, maybe we can look at the speech that then-nominee Biden gave at the 2020 Democratic National Convention regarding his vision for healing America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can choose the path of becoming angrier, less hopeful, and more divided,\u201d he said, according to a transcript from <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2020\/08\/20\/politics\/biden-dnc-speech-transcript\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. \u201cWe can choose a different path, and together, take this chance to heal, to be reborn, to unite. A path of hope and light \u2026 Character is on the ballot. Compassion is on the ballot. Decency, science, democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the three-plus years he\u2019s been in office, Biden has demonized his opponents as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/maga-republicans-not-happy-called-foundational-threat-america-sound-off-divisive-biden-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ultra-MAGA Republicans<\/a>\u201d who are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-warned-opponent-bloodbath-2020-establishment-media-never-blinked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authoritarian bigots<\/a> while enabling the most divisive elements in the Democratic Party. Yet again, he lied \u2014 this time about healing and decency. If anything shows what character really is, <em>this is it<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet you, Mr. Duncan, are endorsing someone for his decency, character and ability to heal after he literally stood in front of America and prevaricated his backside off about <em>those three selfsame things<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>How gullible can a politician be? If this piece is written in full honesty, that\u2019s not a rhetorical question; Duncan\u2019s further participation in local or national political dialogue requires him to explain how he arrived at a conclusion that Biden is inherently decent when, at every opportunity he\u2019s been given to demonstrate that, he\u2019s failed spectacularly.<\/p>\n<p>The former lieutenant governor spent an entire Op-Ed telling Georgia Republicans they\u2019ve got to suffer under a senile president held captive by failed progressive ideas because Biden is a decent man of character with whom he just happens to disagree.<\/p>\n<p>If he really believes that, he\u2019s obviously terminally unfamiliar with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-priceless-look-hurs-face-finally-admits-biden-lied\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kind of man Joe Biden is<\/a> and should never have written the Op-Ed.<\/p>\n<p>If Duncan isn\u2019t that dumb and couldn\u2019t even dash off that final sentence about \u201cdecent person I disagree with\u201d without falling off his desk chair in a fit of laughter \u2014 and I suspect this is <em>actually<\/em> the case \u2014 he obviously shouldn\u2019t have written the Op-Ed, either.<\/p>\n<p>In short, it never should have been written. There: I read this piffle so you don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you really want to see the lengths the NeverTrumpers will go to in order to continue to delude themselves or you, and possibly both, about what electing Joe Biden really means for Americans, you could do worse than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/republican-senator-crushes-talk-third-party-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geoff Duncan\u2019s<\/a> unintentionally hilarious endorsement of our failed 46th president.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
