Hawley: Impeachment trial is a \u2018terrible waste of time\u2019\">government affairs<\/a> at Family Research Council.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/holocaustremembrance.com\/resources\/working-definition-antisemitism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IHRA definition of anti-Semitism<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/6090\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill H.R. 6090<\/a> includes \u201ccontemporary examples,\u201d Gonzalez told The Washington Stand, among which is \u201cusing \u2026 claims of Jews killing Jesus \u2026 to characterize Israel or Israelis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But \u201cno biblical Christian characterizes Israelis or modern Israel, just because they\u2019re Jewish, as having killed Jesus,\u201d Gonzalez responded. \u201cChristians have long denounced this trope, going back to the church fathers of the first few centuries, and Christians today need not be concerned that this bill implicates proclaiming the gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New Testament is clear that ethnic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/truth-candace-owens-christ-king-jews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jews<\/a> and ethnic Gentiles both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/7-of-the-most-cringeworthy-religious-mishaps-from-leading-leftists\/\" title=\"7 Of The Most Cringeworthy Religious Mishaps From Leading Leftists\">stand condemned<\/a> before God as sinners and can only be saved through faith in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>The same God \u201cgives to all mankind life and breath and everything,\u201d and \u201cHe made from one man every nation of mankind\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+17%3A25-26&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 17:25-26<\/a>). Yet both Jews and Gentiles have broken God\u2019s law, so \u201cboth Jews and Greeks are under sin,\u201d Paul declared (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+3%3A9&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 3:9<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law \u2026 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift \u2026\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+3%3A21-24&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 3:21-24<\/a>). Now \u201cthere is neither Jew nor Greek \u2026 for you are all one in Christ Jesus\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Galatians+3%3A28&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galatians 3:28<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As to who killed Jesus, the Bible\u2019s most comprehensive answer holds Jews and Gentiles equally responsible \u2014 although God was ultimately responsible.<\/p>\n<p>As the apostles prayed, \u201cin this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever Your hand and Your plan had predestined to take place\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+4%3A27-28&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 4:27-28<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In fulfillment of prophecy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+4%3A25-26&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 4:25-26<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+2%3A1-2&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psalm 2:1-2<\/a>), God so orchestrated the circumstances that representatives of all mankind \u2014 both Jews and Gentiles, the people and their leaders \u2014 participated in Jesus\u2019s death, giving no one group reason to boast against another.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Does this bill endanger the Bible?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>God\u2019s sovereign involvement does not nullify human responsibility, but it does add to the significance of Jesus\u2019s death. Jesus died in this way, so He might be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/america-needs-jesus-tucker-carlson-sits-christian-nationalist-warned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Savior of the whole world<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gospel is, that I killed Jesus by my sin,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cThe gospel (literally, the \u2018good news\u2019) is that God the Father sent His Son to die for my sins; God killed Jesus.\u201d In fact, three times Jesus said that He laid down His own life as a sacrifice for His people (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+10%3A11-17&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 10:11, 15, 17<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Regrettably, some people \u2014 even some Christians throughout history \u2014 have lifted biblical texts out of context in an attempt to justify anti-Semitism. In the earliest recorded Christian sermons, preached several months after Jesus\u2019s death in Jerusalem, Jews who believed in Jesus as the Messiah rightly declared to a Jerusalem audience that they had played a role in causing Jesus\u2019s death:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThis Jesus \u2026 you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men \u2026 this Jesus whom you crucified\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+2%3A23-36&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 2:23, 36<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cJesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and you killed the Author of life \u2026. To this we are witnesses\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+3%3A13-15&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 3:13-15<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cJesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+4%3A10&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 4:10<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYour fathers \u2026 killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+7%3A52&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 7:52<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This accusation only applied to those present in Jerusalem at Jesus\u2019 crucifixion. When the Jewish apostle Paul preached to Jews living in modern-day Turkey, he did not accuse them of Jesus\u2019s death but \u201cthose who live in Jerusalem and their rulers\u201d who \u201casked Pilate to have him executed\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+13%3A27-29&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 13:27-29<\/a>). He warned these Jews not to imitate those who did not believe in their Messiah.<\/p>\n<p>None of these passages condones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-anti-semitism-bill-generations-patriot-act-sounds-great-horrific-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anti-Semitism<\/a>. In each instance, the Jewish preacher aims to convict his hearers of sin, so they might turn to the Messiah and repent. Thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cRepent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+2%3A38-39&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 2:38-39<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRepent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,\u201d whom God sent \u201cto you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+3%3A19-26&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 3:19-20, 26<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>After \u201cbeing examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man,\u201d who was enabled to walk and leap by Jesus\u2019s power, Peter declared, \u201cThere is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+4%3A9-12&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 4:9-12<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>As some men (including Paul, prior to his conversion) stoned Stephen to death for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus, he prayed, \u201cLord, do not hold this sin against them\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+7%3A60&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 7:60<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If God intended to judge the Jewish people for having Jesus killed, then why did He offer them salvation, healing, forgiveness, and blessing? Those who twist these texts into a warrant for anti-Semitism presume to inflict a greater judgment than God, the Judge of all.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, these same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/super-bowl-qb-recites-bible-passage-reads-start-every-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passages<\/a> even show God\u2019s sovereign agency behind Jesus\u2019s death:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThis Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God \u2026 know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+2%3A23-36&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 2:23, 36<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe God of our fathers glorified His servant Jesus \u2026 whom God raised from the dead. \u2026 What God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He thus fulfilled\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+3%3A13-18&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 3:13,15, 18<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cJesus Christ of Nazareth \u2026 whom God raised from the dead \u2026 this Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+4%3A10-11&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 4:10-11<\/a>, paraphrasing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+118%3A22&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psalm 118:22<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBehold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+7%3A56&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 7:56<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus it was prophesied, \u201cit was the will of the Lord to crush Him; He has put Him to grief; when His soul makes an offering for guilt, He shall see His offspring; He shall prolong His days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in His hand\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53%3A10&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaiah 53:10<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, those who would abuse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bible-prophecy-israels-mysterious-red-cows-middle-east-tensions-end-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biblical texts<\/a> to justify anti-Semitism must overlook the New Testament\u2019s multiple positive references to Jews. Paul expressed \u201cgreat sorrow and unceasing anguish\u201d over their unbelief (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+9%3A2&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 9:2<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Jews not only received \u201cthe oracles of God\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+3%3A2&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 3:2<\/a>), but \u201cto them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+9%3A4-5&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 9:4-5<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Paul further testified that God has always preserved a believing remnant among the Jewish people (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+11%3A1-5&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 11:1-5<\/a>). \u201cA partial hardening has come upon Israel,\u201d he said, but only \u201cuntil the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved. \u2026 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+11%3A25-29&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 11:25-26, 29<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Paul\u2019s concern \u2014 and God\u2019s concern \u2014 is that the Jewish people might believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to magnify God\u2019s mercy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+11%3A32&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 11:32<\/a>). Anyone concerned with inflicting punishments on or discrimination against the Jewish people is not aligned with God.<\/p>\n<p>To summarize: Jesus willingly laid down his life according to the eternal plan of God, and both Jews and Gentiles, the leaders and the people, were equally complicit in his death. The Bible does not hold Jews especially responsible for Jesus\u2019s death, nor does it hold them especially accursed for their complicity.<\/p>\n<p>It certainly does not implicate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-did-benjamin-netanyahu-give-a-speech-before-the-knesset-thanking-hamas-for-uniting-israel\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Did Benjamin Netanyahu Give A Speech Before The Knesset Thanking Hamas For Uniting Israel?\">modern state<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ceo-makes-pathetic-attempt-walk-back-anti-israel-comments-investors-make-pay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a> and modern Israelis, who were not there, any more than it implicates modern Gentiles, who were not there. But it does hold out future hope that Jews will come to believe in Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>The IHRA definition of anti-Semitism \u201cdoes not criminalize the gospel,\u201d Family Research Council Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v4swwgt-travis-weber-provides-legal-analysis-of-the-antisemitism-awareness-act.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Travis Weber<\/a> said on \u201cWashington Watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even in the one example causing confusion, the anti-Semitism \u201chas to be attached to the state of Israel,\u201d he added, and that\u2019s not what Bible-believing Christians do.
