He worries about the ones they make.<\/p>\n<p>Gosling, who starred last year in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/barbie-fans-crying-foul-perceived-oscars-snubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barbie<\/a>,\u201d is married to Cuban-American actress Eva Mendes. They have two young daughters, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/all-about-ryan-gosling-eva-mendes-kids-7502691\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People<\/a> notes.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/arts-culture\/film\/ryan-gosling-fall-guy-barbie-fame-c7c8a5bf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal Magazine<\/a>, Gosling says he wants the movies in which he has a role to be a positive experience for the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,\u201d\u00a0Gosling said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/superstar-couple-ryan-gosling-eva-mendes-ditch-hollywood-good-children-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gosling<\/a> said that his role in \u201cLa La Land\u201d started his new direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just sort of like, \u2018Oh, this will be fun for them, too, because even though they\u2019re not coming to set, we\u2019re practicing piano every day or we\u2019re dancing or we\u2019re singing,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir interest in \u2018Barbie\u2019 and their disinterest in Ken was an inspiration. I\u00a0thought, they\u00a0were already making little movies about their Barbies on the iPad when it happened, so the fact that I was going off to work to make one too, we just felt like we were aligned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The family goes where he does, which has included a trip to Sydney, Australia, to shoot \u201cThe Fall Guy.\u201d Gosling also tries to mesh shooting with school schedules.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you like Ryan Gosling as an actor?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s a bit of a downside, as Gosling realized when a leap for \u201cThe Fall Guy\u201d led to panic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s happened when I had kids\u2014really, you start to be way more conscious of everything you do and everything you\u2019ve ever done and everything you will do if you get a chance to do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As a parent, Gosling said he tried to live in the present, and not map his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/first-man-got-bad-rap-conservatives-deserves-second-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parenting style<\/a> from his childhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m trying to just figure out who they are and be there for them in the way that I can. They\u2019re such clear and distinct personalities that it\u2019s sort of becoming obvious,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fatherhood was important enough to him that after the 2018 film \u201cFirst Man\u201d he took four years off to be a dad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to be with my family. I didn\u2019t want to miss anything,\u201d he said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/features\/ryan-gosling-barbie-oscars-performance-snubs-ken-1235898750\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy priorities changed, and I wanted to be with my kids. It\u2019s going super fast. I hear the clock ticking,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how much time I\u2019m going to get, and I don\u2019t want to spend it in the wrong place.
