Law enforcement had to use force to subdue\u200c her during the arrest.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A California woman who received no prison time for stabbing her boyfriend 108 times resulting in his death is appealing her light sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Bryn Spejcher, 33, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in December 2023 after the May 2018 stabbing of Chad O\u2019Melia, 26, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/california-woman-who-avoided-prison-after-stabbing-boyfriend-108-times-while-high-appealing-light-sentence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. She was sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community service.<\/p>\n<p>Spejcher was charged with a lesser crime because she killed O\u2019Melia in his apartment in Thousand Oaks in an alleged marijuana-induced psychosis after taking several hits from a bong. She claims in her appeal that she was tricked into using the drug, blaming O\u2019Melia in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13376573\/woman-stabbed-boyfriend-108-times-psychotic-weed-interview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interview<\/a> with the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n<p>After stabbing O\u2019Melia, whom she had only been dating a few weeks, Spejcher stabbed her own dog (who survived the attack) and then stabbed herself in the neck. When police arrived at the scene after being called by neighbors, Spejcher was in such a rage that authorities couldn\u2019t restrain her even with a taser and had to beat her with batons until her arms broke, the Mail reported.<\/p>\n<p>She was taken to a hospital and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lauren-boebert-undergoes-emergency-surgery-after-being-diagnosed-with-rare-condition\/\" title=\"Lauren Boebert has emergency surgery for rare condition\">underwent emergency surgery due<\/a> to her near-fatal knife wounds.<\/p>\n<p>Spejcher blamed O\u2019Melia for the incident in her interview with the Mail, claiming he was physically aggressive and that she \u201cfelt intimidated by him.\u201d She claimed he had \u201ctemper outbursts and uncontrollable emotions\u201d to the point that she \u201cfeared the consequences\u201d of refusing to use marijuana with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I physically inhaled it. So, we\u2019re both accountable,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cBut there\u2019s obviously been more attention to my part [in the attack] versus Chad\u2019s part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Melia\u2019s father, Sean, conducted his own <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/woman-who-avoided-prison-after-stabbing-lover-108-times-appealing-his-dad-speaking-out-exclusive-8644256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with People Magazine, saying that his son \u201cnever saw Bryn Spejcher for who or what she is\u201d and \u201cRepeatedly, he made excuses for that woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sean also bemoaned Spejcher\u2019s appeal, saying that she \u201ckilled somebody and she is serving no prison time for that \u2014 and even that\u2019s not good enough for her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715167897594000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0ZhOYl1hUvyplEJT3QwTSU\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors at trial had claimed Spejcher suffered from \u201cCannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder,\u201d which caused her to kill O\u2019Melia. Spejcher was initially charged with murder, but the charge was downgraded after medical experts for the defense and the prosecution found her to have had a bad reaction to the marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>Still, after her conviction, the prosecution requested that she receive the maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judge took all that and just threw it away,\u201d Sean told People Magazine.<\/p>\n<p>He told the outlet that he believes she would have been tried for murder in another country, adding that \u201cshe wouldn\u2019t have just been seen as a harmless White woman, she\u2019d be seen for what she truly is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said he worries she could have another \u201cpsychotic episode.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you turn that switch on, it can turn on a lot easier next time,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cThe last time she did this, she almost killed herself.
