Legal action is being pursued, \u2062demanding protester details and footage from the\u2064 university.\u200b NYPD\u200d intervened on April 30 at Hamilton Hall.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The international president of the Transport Workers Union, which represents over 150,000 workers in the transportation industry, said the union will sue Columbia University for its failure to protect the workers during the pro-Hamas protests at the university.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">725 workers at Columbia University are represented by a branch of the union.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s on them to protect their workforce and they didn\u2019t do it,\u201d John Samuelsen said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/07\/tranport-workers-union-columbia-lawsuit-00156421\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">POLITICO<\/a>. He called the protesters\u2019 behavior \u201can outrageous affront to working people,\u201d adding, \u201cWe\u2019re exploiting every legal means at our disposal against Columbia, against the individual occupiers of the building \u2026 [who] thought that they could hold our custodians hostage to their ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Samuelsen reportedly wrote Columbia University president Minouche Shafik a letter asking for the names of the protesters arrested inside Hamilton Hall, video footage from the hall, and the number of protesters involved as recorded by the NYPD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Samuelsen claimed in the letter that at least one \u201csmarmy, sanctimonious, elitist \u2026 occupier\u201d who took over Hamilton Hall at the university told custodians at the building they could not leave because \u201cthis moment is bigger than you,\u201d prompting the custodians to battle to reach one of the barricaded exits to escape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">On April 30, the NYPD confronted the activists at Columbia who had taken over Hamilton Hall, bringing a heavily armored vehicle that had a ladder deployed so that officers could enter the building through an upstairs window.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715177735904000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1-6ngj4rEzgikkFU2xgGTn\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A facility worker who was in the building had yelled, \u201cThey held me hostage\u201d as he left Hamilton Hall around 12:40 a.m., on April 30, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article\/hamas-endorsed-students-invade-columbia-building-worker-says-occupiers-held-me-hostage\/25354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to Campus Reform, minutes after the protesters stormed the building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The day before, Columbia President Minouche Shafik <a href=\"https:\/\/president.columbia.edu\/news\/statement-columbia-university-president-minouche-shafik-4-29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that the university had not been able to reach an agreement for the group to disband its camp. She stated, \u201cTo that end, since Wednesday, a small group of academic leaders has been in constructive dialogue with student organizers to find a path that would result in the dismantling of the encampment and adherence to University policies going forward.
