They are part of a\u2064 group of 60\u2064 honored \u200dmembers from the 118th Congress, consisting of 34 Republicans, 22 Democrats,\u200b and two \u200cindependents. The\u2063 award \u200drecognizes policymakers \u200cdedicated to\u200c improving the nation\u2019s fiscal situation and \u2063enhancing the budget process.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 Three North Carolinians are among the Republican, Democrat and independent members of Congress named Fiscal Heroes by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Reps. Chuck Edwards, Virginia Foxx and Patrick McHenry were among the 60 honored from the 118th Congress. Thirty-four Republicans, 22 Democrats and two independents are still at work while the list also included two who have exited early, former Reps. Mike Gallagher and Kevin McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>The award, its website says, recognizes \u201cpolicymakers working to improve the nation\u2019s fiscal situation and fix the budget process. Fiscal Heroes have distinguished themselves by pushing their party leaders to make debt a priority, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-nih-pressed-over-taxpayer-funded-cruel-dog-tests\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s NIH Pressed Over Taxpayer Funded \u201cCruel Dog Tests\u201d\">leading bipartisan efforts<\/a> to work through policy options to fix the debt and the budget process, taking responsible votes, participating in fiscally focused events, using their town hall meetings to engage and educate constituents, delivering floor speeches to raise awareness about the issue, advocating to keep tough choices on the table and introducing legislation to improve the budget process and the nation\u2019s fiscal position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Congressional Budget Office in March projected the nation\u2019s deficit will reach 8.5% of gross domestic product in 30 years. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usinflationcalculator.com\/inflation\/historical-inflation-rates\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Inflation was 3.5% in March<\/strong><\/a> (April figures are released May 15), having climbed each of the last two months. It was 1.4% when the Biden administration took office.<\/p>\n<p>Maya MacGuineas, president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/press-releases\/fix-debt-awards-2024-fiscal-heroes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget<\/strong><\/a> and head of Fix the Debt, said, \u201cOur debt is skyrocketing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-tries-to-rally-support-in-georgia-for-4-trillion-in-spending-plans-paid-for-by-tax-hikes\/\" title=\"Biden Tries to Rally Support in Georgia for  Trillion In Spending Plans, Paid for By Tax Hikes\">interest costs<\/a> are surging, major trust funds are approaching insolvency, and the national debt is threatening our national security \u2013\u00a0there has never been a more important moment for policymakers to step up and lead on fiscal issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeading on fiscal responsibility isn\u2019t easy, especially when compared to the reckless but politically expedient choice to pass on more debt to the next generation. The other two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthys-next-challenge-sell-debt-ceiling-deal-in-congress\/\" title=\"McCarthy faces new task: persuade Congress on debt ceiling agreement.\">credit-rating agencies<\/a>, S&#038;P Global and Fitch, grade U.S. credit at AA+.
