The proposal aims to restore order and financial responsibility\u2064 on campuses.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1eiU0num2eQ\">remarks<\/a> regarding the growing unrest on college campuses nationwide last Thursday, President Biden denounced the violent acts associated with many of the demonstrations and the growing wave of antisemitism on college campuses.<\/p>\n<p>But, as the saying goes, talk is cheap. There\u2019s one simple way to give his position teeth: Congress should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-florida-bill-passes-banning-chinese-citizens-from-buying-land\/\" title=\"Florida bans Chinese citizens from purchasing land with new bill.\">enact legislation prohibiting<\/a> the Department of Education from making taxpayers assume or otherwise modifying student loans for any student found responsible by his university or a court of law for acts of antisemitism, trespassing, property damage, intimidation, or violence.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1291321769\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-22b1d00797913b9732f0f57343b9c3e7 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-22b1d00797913b9732f0f57343b9c3e7\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Loan Giveaways Encourage Campus Chaos<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Biden might be loathe to admit it, but in many ways the campaign for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aoc-says-she-hasnt-ruled-out-primarying-chuck-schumer-in-2022\/\" title=\"AOC Says She Hasn\u2019t Ruled Out Primarying Chuck Schumer In 2022\">mass student loan forgiveness<\/a> has helped cause the current campus debacle. This year\u2019s seniors entered college during the 2020 election campaign, meaning that most students currently on campus spent their college career hearing promises that much if not all of their debt would be forgiven.<\/p>\n<p>This leftist movement to make American taxpayers pay off other people\u2019s college debt has further weakened the already-tenuous link between a degree and its earning potential. If they believe the government will ultimately forgive the cost of their education, students have no reason not to major in Grievance Studies, or some similar Marxist-adjacent course of study. Assuming their loan debts will get nationalized also makes students less concerned about potential employers refusing to hire them due to their participation in on-campus riots.<\/p>\n<p>With less incentive for students to choose practical degrees, and officials prioritizing woke nostrums over intellectual rigor, colleges have given up all pretense of ideological balance. As a result, some institutions have become less like universities and more like madrassas, places that inculcate and radicalize youths rather than educate them.<\/p>\n<p>The way Biden has continued to pursue loan forgiveness, despite a rebuke of his unconstitutional plan by the Supreme Court, set an example that demonstrators have replicated. The president may now deprecate the mob\u2019s actions, and call for respect for the rule of law, but when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/joe-biden-student-debt-forgiveness-supreme-court-0c5204fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">publicly brags<\/a> that the nation\u2019s highest court \u201cdidn\u2019t stop me\u201d from pursuing his objectives, can anyone blame the would-be jihadis on campus for thinking themselves entitled to take the law into their own hands?<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-563dddd82c382b54523e79777004adef fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-563dddd82c382b54523e79777004adef\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Restore Sanity to Campuses<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Congress can and should take a stand, by cutting off the financial spigot for participants in the bedlam. If Biden opposes the chaos on campus so strongly, he should be willing to take a break from buying votes via taxpayer loan payoffs to cut off access for those creating mayhem. And if Democrats on the left like Rep. Ilhan Omar wish to exclude from loan payoffs any participants in Islamophobic or other offensive acts, few Republicans \u2014 who oppose Biden\u2019s forgiveness proposals outright \u2014 will object.<\/p>\n<p>Some might fear this proposal would encourage already-timid university administrators to take a weaker line against the demonstrators because individuals held responsible could face significant financial repercussions. But in some cases, civil authorities may be able to act irrespective of whether the higher education institutions in question do. More importantly, this measure should deter students as much as university officials, if not more so.<\/p>\n<p>Another potential concern, that Congress prohibiting loan bailouts for a narrow sliver of the population might be viewed as lawmakers permitting Biden\u2019s power grab for other students, doesn\u2019t appear to pass muster, either. The House <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/student-loans-debt-cancellation-forgiveness-biden-congress-ebc6a1cbc98a3fb587c8a8acff35a92a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed a bill last spring<\/a> disapproving Biden\u2019s original student loan payoff plan, but the fact that the measure didn\u2019t get enacted into law didn\u2019t stop the Supreme Court from striking the plan down as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-national-review-heres-why-dems-for-the-people-act-is-dangerous\/\" title=\"Pence, National Review: Here\u2019s Why Dems\u2019 \u2018For The People Act\u2019 Is Dangerous\">unconstitutional power grab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, this proposal focuses solely on actions, not speech. Like all other Americans, students can and should have the right to protest, and to express their views, however offensive others may find them. But when speech crosses into intimidation, or encampments that create safety and health concerns, let alone breaking into buildings, those actions should bring consequences \u2014 in this case, financial ones.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-75dd744704cd4b83f263b3ceee3e2437 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-75dd744704cd4b83f263b3ceee3e2437\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Practical Solution<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Prohibiting student loan payoffs is less expensive and more practical than the other alternative: giving demonstrators a one-way ticket to the Gaza Strip. It would also send a message in clear and uncertain terms about what the American people, through their elected representatives, think of the mayhem that has unfolded in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>In the longer term, the recent campus chaos should prompt Congress to consider repealing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-reasons-making-taxpayers-pay-off-student-loans-is-a-rotten-idea\/\" title=\"5 Reasons Making Taxpayers Pay Off Student Loans Is A Rotten Idea\">student loan program<\/a> entirely, a reform that would incentivize students and universities to prioritize college affordability, while saving taxpayers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2023-05\/51310-2023-05-studentloan.pdf\">at least $300 billion<\/a> over the coming decade. But at minimum, lawmakers should act now to ensure that hard-working taxpayers are not subsidizing participants in violent demonstrations on campuses nationwide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-638550ec16499aa6ff1d6288593347e6 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-638550ec16499aa6ff1d6288593347e6\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Biden addressed the unrest on college campuses, condemning violent acts and antisemitism.
