Its purpose is to\u2062 ensure transparency \u2064in voter registration\u2064 and compliance with NVRA regulations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>A conservative law firm in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wisconsin<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/conservative-firm-sues-elections-commission-meagan-wolfe-voter-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>filed a lawsuit<\/a> against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wisconsin Elections Commission<\/a> Administrator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2965975\/wisconsin-election-administrator-given-extra-security-after-attacks-from-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Meagan Wolfe<\/a> over the public access to the state\u2019s voter registration list, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Interest Legal Foundation filed a federal lawsuit against Wolfe because they believe she has violated the federal National Voter Registration Act. <\/p>\n<p>NVRA was created in 1993 and requires states to make their voter registration lists available for public inspection. At the time of the passage of the NVRA, Wisconsin, among five other states, was exempt from the law as the state had same-day registration when the act was signed into law. <\/p>\n<p>WEC currently charges for voter registration lists via <a href=\"https:\/\/badgervoters.wi.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Badger Voters<\/a>, an agency a part of WEC. Fees for purchasing lists range from $25 to $12,500. The voter registration lists do not include a voter\u2019s date of birth, driver\u2019s license information, and Social Security numbers. <\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit aims to nullify Wisconsin\u2019s exemption to NVRA based on a 2013 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which found parts of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional, reaffirming \u201cthe principle that all States enjoy equal sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe transparency should apply in all 50 states, not just 44,\u201d Public Interest Legal Foundation President J. Christian Adams said. \u201cWisconsin and Minnesota have an exemption from transparency obligations because of things they did 30 years ago or more, that are no longer relevant to current circumstances. And that disclosure of public information is a good thing.
