DeSantis Challenger Paid Thousands to Liberal Activist Currently Facing Sexual Assault Allegations\">facing sexual assault allegations<\/a> in May 2018, and Barbara Underwood became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pro-life-groups-hit-back-new-york-ag-letitia-james-court-allege-unfair-witch-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-whitmer-ally-rejects-call-for-investigation-gop-hints-at-funding-special-prosecutor\/\" title=\"After Whitmer Ally Rejects Call For Investigation, GOP Hints At Funding Special Prosecutor\">top law enforcement official<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In that capacity, Underwood sued the Trump Foundation alleging the nonprofit had misused donations.<\/p>\n<p>Colangelo worked under her at the time.<\/p>\n<p>He joined Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alvin-braggs-team-begs-judge-pile-even-punishment-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alvin Bragg\u2019s<\/a> office in December 2022, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/manhattanda.org\/district-attorney-bragg-announces-matthew-colangelo-as-new-senior-counsel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> from the prosecutor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, Colangelo was named acting associate attorney general in the federal Department of Justice on the date of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-tax-hike-11-states-50-capital-gains-rate-drastic-new-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden\u2019s<\/a> inauguration.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He also previously worked as an assistant to then-President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-campaign-seeking-use-obama-george-clooney-possibly-julia-roberts-garner-support-hollywood-elites-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barack Obama<\/a>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/asg\/staff-profile\/former-acting-associate-attorney-general-matthew-colangelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DOJ<\/a> profile.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News said neither the DNC nor the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office immediately responded to its requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2023, Bragg\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/revealed-trump-indicted-34-felony-counts-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charged<\/a> Trump with 34 felony counts of \u201cfalsifying business records,\u201d alleging he was attempting to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-cant-delay-new-york-civil-trial-amid-piling-legal-troubles-judge-rules\/\" title=\"Judge rules Trump cannot delay New York civil trial amidst mounting legal woes.\">conceal hush money payments<\/a> to former adult film actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-stormy-daniels-calls-trump-supporters-suicide-bombers-appearance-view\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stormy Daniels<\/a> and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.<\/p>\n<p>Both women claimed they had affairs with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-adds-another-gag-order-punishment-trump-says-jail-sentence-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a>, who has denied it.<\/p>\n<p>The former president\u2019s trial in Manhattan began two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>In his opening remarks in the trial, Colangelo tried to paint Trump as a criminal and to soften the image of former Trump attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-judge-slaps-michael-cohens-attempt-sue-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Cohen<\/a>, who will be a witness against the former president and who is a convicted felon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike other witnesses in this trial, he made mistakes in the past,\u201d the prosecutor told jurors, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/04\/22\/trump-hush-money-criminal-trial\/colangelo-on-cohen-00153628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While explaining to them why Cohen spent time in prison for campaign finance and other crimes, Colangelo said, \u201cHe lied about it to protect his boss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/chairman-jordan-investigates-justice-department-coordination-alvin-braggs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> on Tuesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fani-willis-throws-tantrum-jim-jordan-contempt-deadline-arrives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Jordan<\/a> called Bragg\u2019s unprecedented prosecution of Trump and Colangelo\u2019s role in the trial \u201cpolitical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince last year, popularly elected prosecutors \u2014 who campaigned for office on the promise of prosecuting President Trump \u2014 engaged in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and current leading candidate for that office,\u201d the Ohio Republican said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Trump emerge victorious from this trial?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cGiven the perception that the Biden DOJ is assisting in Bragg\u2019s politicized prosecution, the Committee is seeking to further understand the scope of Colangelo\u2019s employment and his obsession with investigating President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an accompanying letter to Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ag-merrick-garland-announces-end-biden-classified-documents-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a>, Jordan wrote, \u201cMr. Colangelo\u2019s recent employment history demonstrates his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the New York Attorney General\u2019s Office, Mr. Colangelo ran investigations into President Trump, leading \u2018a wave of state litigation against Trump administration policies,&#8217;\u201d the congressman <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2024-04-30%20JDJ%20to%20Garland%20re%20Colangelo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cOn January 20, 2021, the first day of the Biden Administration, Mr. Colangelo began serving as the Acting Associate Attorney General \u2014 the number three official in your department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon the confirmation of Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta, Mr. Colangelo then served as the Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn December 2022, Bragg \u2018beefed up [his] office\u2019 by hiring Mr. Colangelo to fill the void left by the departure of politicized line prosecutors Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne. Bragg hired Mr. Colangelo to \u2018jump-start\u2019 his office\u2019s investigation of President Trump, reportedly due to Mr. Colangelo\u2019s \u2018history of taking on Donald J. Trump and his family business.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Colangelo is now a lead prosecutor in President Trump\u2019s trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded, \u201cThat a former senior Biden Justice Department official is now leading the prosecution of President Biden\u2019s chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
