Merchan emphasized the need for compliance to avoid incarceration. Former President Donald Trump was fined $1,000 for \u2063violating the court&#8217;s gag \u2064order in his New York criminal trial. Judge Juan Merchan warned of possible imprisonment if the breaches continued. Trump had already incurred a $9,000 fine \u2064for similar infractions related to social media posts. Merchan stressed the importance of adhering to the rules \u2064to prevent incarceration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> was fined $1,000 on Monday by the judge overseeing his New York criminal trial who said Trump had made comments on the case that violated the court\u2019s gag order. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Judge Juan Merchan, who announced the fine, said he might have to order Trump to be imprisoned if the gag order was violated again. Last week, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-hits-trump-with-fines-threatens-jail-time-over-gag-order?topStoryPosition=4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was fined<\/a> $9,000 over social media posts that Merchan said violated the directive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt appears that the $1,000 fines are not serving as a deterrent. Therefore going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sanction,\u201d Merchan wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/LegacyPDFS\/press\/PDFs\/DOcontempt_5-6-24FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">court order<\/a>. \u201cDefendant is hereby put on notice that if appropriate and warranted, future violations of its lawful orders will be punishable by incarceration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Merchan said Trump violated the gag order when the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-argue-at-impeachment-trial-that-capitol-breach-wasnt-sparked-by-one-speech\/\" title=\"Democrats Argue at Impeachment Trial That Capitol Breach Wasn\u2019t Sparked by \u2018One Speech\u2019\">president criticized<\/a> the jury\u2019s composition, saying that it was mainly composed of Democrats. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou know [the judge is] rushing the trial like crazy. Nobody\u2019s ever seen a thing go like this. That jury was picked so fast \u2014 95% Democrats. The areas mostly all Democrat. You think of it as a \u2014 just a purely Democrat area. It\u2019s a very unfair situation, that I can tell you,\u201d Trump said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/americasvoice.news\/video\/Fl5de625uPnASso\/?related=playlist\">interview<\/a> with Real America\u2019s Voice last month. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDefendant violated the Order by making public statements about the jury and how it was selected. In doing so, Defendant not only called into question the integrity, and therefore the legitimacy of these proceedings, but again raised the specter of fear for the safety of the jurors and of their loved ones,\u201d Merchan wrote in his order. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Merchan did not fine Trump for several other comments on the case he made that prosecutors alleged violated the gag order.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The fine comes as Trump is on trial over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt? Later, after Trump pointed out Merchan\u2019s daughter\u2019s history working for elected Democrats, Merchan expanded the gag order to cover members of his family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking outside of the courtroom on Monday morning, Trump said that his constitutional rights had been taken away from him by the judge. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s a ridiculous case. I did nothing wrong. Absolutely nothing wrong,\u201d Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/112394542376341289\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cHe\u2019s taken away my constitutional right to speak.
