Prosecutors admitted\u200b discrepancies in the\u200b seized\u2064 documents&#8217; order and \u2064labeling, raising \u2062concerns about potential losses and mislabeling. The \u2063ongoing investigation\u2064 involves significant taxpayer funds allocated for \u2062the probe.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Special Counsel Jack Smith admitted federal prosecutors tampered with evidence in his criminal case alleging former President Donald Trump mishandled classified documents. <\/p>\n<p>According to a Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/67490070\/522\/united-states-v-trump\/\">court filin<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/67490070\/522\/united-states-v-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">g<\/a>, prosecutors said documents the FBI seized from Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago residence are no longer in the same order in which they found them, and some are mislabeled and may even be misplaced. A government \u201cfilter team\u201d that dealt with the boxes once the FBI took them \u201cwas not focused on maintaining the sequence of documents within each box,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/roger-stone-announces-he-will-sue-those-who-arrested-him-and-put-him-in-front-of-a-kangaroo-court\/\" title=\"Roger Stone Announces He Will Sue Those Who Arrested Him and Put Him In Front of a Kangaroo Court\">special counsel\u2019<\/a>s office wrote in the filing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1279145878\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-923b650f2b6f28e703a7c263f29ac50d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-923b650f2b6f28e703a7c263f29ac50d\"><\/div>\n<p>Later the filing says, of early inventories and scanned records of the seized document boxes, \u201cBecause these inventories and scans were created close in time to the seizure of the documents, they are the best evidence available of the order the documents were in when seized. That said, there are some boxes where the order of items within that box is not the same as in the associated scans.\u201d A footnote on this last sentence says: \u201cThe Government acknowledges that this is inconsistent with what Government counsel previously understood and represented to the Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filing also suggests the Department of Justice and FBI may have lost and mislabeled some of the documents. When the agencies first took the documents at Mar-a-Lago, government employees used many blank sheets of paper as substitutes and cover papers for what they decided might be classified documents. <\/p>\n<p>After the FBI brought the document boxes to Washington DC, federal employees and contractors began replacing these \u201chandwritten sheets\u201d with proper classified document covers. Federal prosecutors confiscated 33 boxes of documents from the hostile raid on Trump\u2019s home in August 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/new-revelations-florida-documents-trial-put-trump-offense-against-deranged-special-counsel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according <\/a>to Fox News.
