Now, he is barely alive.<\/p>\n<p>On what began as an evening with friends, Christopher Gilbert, 26, was pushed into a Louisiana lake by friends who knew he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dramatic-footage-shows-police-officer-not-good-swimmer-save-girl-drowning-deep-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">could not swim<\/a>, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/04\/us-news\/louisiana-aspiring-doctor-christopher-gilbert-left-brain-dead-after-friends-push-him-in-lake-to-drown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>. The aspiring medical student remained underwater for about 10 minutes before a stranger came to save him as his friends looked on.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place at Lake D\u2019Arbonne in Farmerville on April 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA friend of his called, and she was hysterical crying. She told me that Chris has fell into the lake and he had been underwater for 10 minutes or so,\u201d said Yolanda George, the victim\u2019s mother, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksla.com\/2024\/04\/30\/family-seeking-justice-after-son-allegedly-pushed-into-lake-left-underwater-nearly-20-minutes\/?tbref=hp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KSLA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-anthony-faucis-10m-2020-investment-portfolio-includes-chinese-companies\/\" title=\"Report: Anthony Fauci\u2019s M 2020 Investment Portfolio Includes Chinese Companies\u00a0\">doctor called<\/a> us in and told me that at that time, he was brain dead and the rest of his organs were starting to fail. That we had 72 hours on the ECMO machine. It\u2019s sort of like dialysis for the lungs, and they had to put him on a ventilator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When she saw her son, \u201cI felt like my life had ended in that moment. My son is aspiring to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-data-for-masked-vs-unmasked-counties-would-be-on-every-front-page-if-it-showed-a-different-result\/\" title=\"This Data For Masked Vs Unmasked Counties Would Be On Every Front Page, If It Showed a Different Result\">medical doctor<\/a>, my son is going to be a medical doctor. He got his masters last year in biological science. He\u2019s preparing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/student-finds-elusive-treasure-of-gold-gemstones-and-pre-columbian-artifacts-stashed-in-rocky-mountains\/\" title=\"Student Finds Elusive Treasure of Gold, Gemstones and Pre-Columbian Artifacts Stashed in Rocky Mountains\">medical school<\/a>, so for this to have happened to him \u2026 I was just devastated,\u201d she said,<\/p>\n<p>She cannot believe this started with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-drowns-honeymoon-situation-gets-even-worse-widow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">friends<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would you push my son in the lake knowing couldn\u2019t swim?\u201d George asked.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert did not die, but weeks after the incident he has a long road to travel. He can respond cognitively but is unable to speak.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should the friends face punishment?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of work that the machines are doing on his behalf is constant. His lungs are said to be at 20 percent. His status doesn\u2019t really get better; it\u2019s just different,\u201d said attorney Claudia Payne, who represents the family.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2ZPOdxYkzss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video from the scene<\/a> showed several individuals looking into the water, but none sought to enter it.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2ZPOdxYkzss?si=QjbKOvVWhli8YsPR\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lincolnparishjournal.com\/2024\/04\/26\/near-drowning-details-unclear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincoln Parish Journal<\/a>, a police report from the Union Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office said Gilbert\u2019s friends first said Gilbert fell in face first and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hero-yu-gi-oh-creator-drowns-trying-save-mother-daughter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">later admitted<\/a> pushing him in in what was called \u201chorse play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was initially told to officers of Farmerville Police Department was that Chris fell on his own into Lake D\u2019arbonne,\u201d Payne wrote in a letter to authorities asking for criminal charges to be brought.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, later on that night an individual within the \u2018friend\u2019 group, a white female, who we believe to be around the same age as Chris, admitted to pushing him into the water,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo add insult to injury, after pushing him, no one from the \u2018friend group\u2019 attempted to go in after him. Instead, two brave bystanders, who have no relationship to Chris, heard commotion and retrieved his body from the lake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report said that Gilbert was found in 15 feet of water by one bystander and that another bystander assisted Sgt.
