Critics question the timeliness of Biden&#8217;s response amidst escalating concerns.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"President Joe Biden's\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/college-democrats-leader-under-fire-for-anti-semitic-tweets\/\" title=\"College Democrats Leader Under Fire For Anti-Semitic Tweets\">political sensibilities<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wheel-of-fortune-contestant-speaks-on-being-publicly-humiliated-while-pat-sajak-urges-have-a-little-heart\/\" title=\"\u2018Wheel Of Fortune\u2019 Contestant Speaks On Being \u2018Publicly Humiliated\u2019 While Pat Sajak Urges \u2018Have A Little Heart\u2019\">public speaking skills<\/a> will be tested next week when he delivers a highly anticipated speech denouncing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/antisemitism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"President Joe Biden's\">antisemitism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But critics contend the speech, scheduled to take place one week after colleges requested that police respond to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/campus-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"student protest encampments\">student protest encampments<\/a> over the Israel-Hamas war, could be too little, too late as Biden tries to assure the Jewish community and those sympathetic toward the Palestinian cause that he stands with them both.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s task with the speech, to be delivered as part of the U.S.\u00a0Holocaust\u00a0Memorial Museum\u2019s annual Days of Remembrance ceremony, is a \u201ctough one,\u201d according to Colby College government professor emeritus Sandy\u00a0Maisel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a speech that has to be carefully crafted,\u201d Maisel told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>For Maisel, condemning antisemitism is the \u201ceasy\u201d part. What is more difficult is \u201cdifferentiating criticism of Israel and\/or of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu from antisemitism,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo they oppose the [Israel Defense Forces] attacks on innocent civilians in Gaza for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unanimous-supreme-court-illegal-immigrants-do-not-have-a-right-to-green-cards\/\" title=\"Unanimous Supreme Court: Illegal Immigrants Do Not Have A Right To Green Cards\">humanitarian reasons<\/a>?\u201d Maisel asked. \u201cOr, do they oppose the IDF actions because they think Hamas was right in their attack and that the IDF actions are just more proof that Israelis have no right in Israel and must be driven out?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maisel is confident Biden \u201ccan direct the national conversation\u201d where \u201ccontext matters.\u201d But Rutgers University history, media studies, and journalism professor\u00a0David\u00a0Greenberg encouraged Biden and other Democrats to stop being \u201cin denial about the depth and virulence of antisemitism on the left and within the anti-Israel movement, including among some members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden needs to rediscover the inner Joe who gave such heartfelt remarks back in October and who showed such appreciation for the historic plight of the Jewish people,\u201d Greenberg told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cHe needs to transcend politics and speak to the fear that Jews in America, in Israel, and around the world are experiencing right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greenberg compared the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-dems-unify-on-taxpayer-funded-abortions\/\" title=\"House Dems unify on taxpayer funded abortions\">current political moment<\/a> to the one in the summer of 2020 after the choking death of George Floyd, a black man, in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the shooting of Jacob Blake by officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin, both incidents resulting in unrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2020, there was a similar moment when he went to Kenosha and denounced the violence,\u201d Greenberg said. \u201cIt helped reassure voters that he was not captive to the party\u2019s left wing. The extreme left has always been anti-Semitic, and Biden needs to call them out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite how loud the protests are, with demonstrators disrupting former first lady Rosalynn Carter\u2019s memorial service last November and \u2066101,000 Democrats voting uncommitted ballot in Michigan\u2019s \u2069primary in February, a YouGov-<em>Economist<\/em> poll published this week found <a href=\"https:\/\/today.yougov.com\/topics\/politics\/explore\/topic\/The_Economist_YouGov_polls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a plurality of respondents were more sympathetic toward Israel<\/a> (31%) than Palestinians (17%), though 28% were equally sympathetic and another 24% were not sure. In addition, 30% considered the Israeli reaction to be \u201ctoo harsh,\u201d 22% \u201cabout right\u201d and 15% \u201cnot harsh enough\u201d, though 32% were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>But the political pressure exerted on Biden by the protesters and their allies in Congress when former President Donald Trump has an average national polling lead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/general\/2024\/trump-vs-biden-vs-kennedy-vs-west-vs-stein\">3 percentage points<\/a> is also pointed, with Biden\u2019s original condemnation of unpeaceful protests including a Disclaimer that he disagreed with \u201cthose who don\u2019t understand what\u2019s going on with the Palestinians.\u201d Biden has particularly become more publicly critical of Netanyahu after IDF drones attacked a humanitarian aid convoy organized by restaurateur Jose Andres\u2019 World Central Kitchen non-profit group.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>President Joe Biden speaks during a State Dinner at the White House in Washington, Thursday, May 2, 2024, to honor the 2024 National Teacher of the Year and other teachers from across the United States. (AP Photo\/Mark Schiefelbein)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Biden attempts to appease more liberal Democrats, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Jewish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jewish<\/a> spouse of a president or vice president, has supported him with Jewish Democrats. Emhoff has, for example, been conducting outreach with Jewish students and Hillel leaders, including Rabbi Elie Buechler, director of the Orthodox Union-Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus at Columbia University and Barnard College, as well as Brian Cohen, Levine Family executive director at Columbia\/Barnard Hillel.<\/p>\n<p>Biden previewed his speech this week during his Roosevelt Room address about the protests, which included Columbia University students occupying a campus building, demonstrations becoming violent at the University of California Los Angeles, and reports of anti-Semitic rhetoric across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In that statement, Biden underscored that \u201cWe are not an authoritarian nation where we silence people or squash dissent,\u201d\u00a0\u201cbut neither are we a lawless country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn moments like this, there are always those who rush in to score political points,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cBut this isn\u2019t a moment for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>politics<\/a>. (AP Photo\/Craig Ruttle)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBiden spoke for just over three minutes about the antisemitic rioting on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-china-threat-is-real-and-upon-us\/\" title=\"The China Threat is Real and Upon Us\">college campuses<\/a>,\u201d Bob LaValley, a spokesman for House Speaker Mike Johnson, told reporters Friday after Biden\u2019s appearance in the Roosevelt Room. \u201cThe one word that he fails to mumble or even mention is\u00a0\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/05\/02\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-recent-events-on-college-campuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">condemn<\/a>.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe failed to denounce the pro-Hamas rioters for the\u00a0devastation\u00a0and\u00a0anarchy\u00a0that occurred on college campuses across the country,\u201d LaValley said. \u201cHe failed to denounce their hatred of Jews. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, our first President George Washington was <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BretBaier\/status\/1786054883939930535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">covered<\/a> in graffiti and a Palestinian flag not far from the White House.\u00a0He has the power to end it, but he won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House has defended Biden\u2019s approach to the protests, reminding reporters that the deadly 2017 Charlottesville Unite the Right rally spurred his presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFighting antisemitism is at the core of who this president is,\u201d White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Friday. \u201cWhen it comes to speeches, important, big moments like this, the president obviously takes this very seriously.
