Shrier \u200cshared insights from her \u2064book &#8220;Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren&#8217;t Growing Up,&#8221; questioning the effectiveness\u200b of modern therapy in addressing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-five-women-are-suing-over-their-transgender-medical-treatments\/\" title=\"Five women are taking legal action over their transgender medical treatments\">emotional \u2064struggles<\/a> of the younger \u2062generation. Shapiro highlighted the impact of smartphones and social media on this issue.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>In a new \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/episode\/resisting-indoctrination-abigail-shrier-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday Special<\/a>\u201d interview, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro spoke to author Abigail Shrier about the worsening mental health crisis among today\u2019s youth.<\/p>\n<p>During their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-tech-is-furious-andrew-tate-is-exposing-the-great-reset\/\" title=\"Big Tech Is Furious Andrew Tate Is Exposing The Great Reset\">hour-long discussion<\/a>, Shapiro asked Shrier about some of the themes in her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/project-veritas-strips-cnn-naked\/\" title=\"Project Veritas Strips CNN Naked\">latest book<\/a>, \u201cBad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren\u2019t Growing Up,\u201d released in February.<\/p>\n<p>Shrier posits that the youngest generation might be less resilient because they are encouraged to focus on their bad feelings under the guise of working them out. Therapy, she suggests, might not be helping as much as we think it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s talk about what\u2019s ailing the kids,\u201d Shapiro began, noting there has been a \u201csystemic change in therapy\u201d in recent years. He asked Shrier whether she believes smartphones and social media could be a significant issue for children as well.<\/p>\n<p>Shrier responded that \u201ca lot of harms\u201d come from kids having phones, \u201cbut does it totally explain the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jazz-jennings-says-100-pound-weight-gain-has-nothing-to-do-with-being-transgender-or-reassignment-surgery\/\" title=\"Jazz Jennings Says 100 Pound Weight Gain Has \u2018Nothing To Do\u2019 With Being Transgender or Reassignment Surgery\">mental health decline<\/a> of young people? No, it clearly doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shrier cited federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/childrensmentalhealth\/data.html#:~:text=1%20in%206%20U.S.%20children,%2C%20behavioral%2C%20or%20developmental%20disorder.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> showing that children eight and under, who are not usually on social media, also have high rates of mental health or behavioral diagnoses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt isn\u2019t just a question of the phones,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s also a question of the unhealthy life we\u2019ve given kids which includes this constant therapy, this constant sense from schools, from parents, and yes from therapists that there\u2019s something wrong with them, that they have trauma, and that they need a diagnosis and medication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShyness. We never hear a kid described as shy. They have social phobia or social anxiety,\u201d Shrier added. \u201cEvery child who\u2019s inattentive is told they have ADHD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later in the discussion, Shapiro noted, \u201cWe\u2019re telling kids that they ought to be coddled, because we\u2019ve told adults that they ought to be coddled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one says to a child, \u2018Shake it off. You\u2019re fine,&#8217;\u201d Shrier agreed. \u201cNo one is telling kids even at a small level that they can overcome minor injuries, so they don\u2019t think they can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro also asked Shrier for her advice to parents currently considering where to send their children to school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumber one, parental authority. Kids need your authority,\u201d Shrier said.\u00a0\u201cMake sure that we communicate our values to our kids. We\u2019re doing a lousy job of that in the country, and we send them off to school where teachers can\u2019t wait to pass on their values to your kids, so don\u2019t let that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s obsessed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donny-deutsch-fncs-tucker-carlson-is-a-ratings-whore\/\" title=\"Donny Deutsch: FNC's Tucker Carlson Is a 'Ratings Whore'\">making kids<\/a>. happy.
