We know this to be the same for a majority of our classmates,\u201d the students wrote, according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C6cZBPEPd9f\/?hl=en&#038;img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVideos have circulated of police clad in riot gear mocking and brutalizing our students,\u201d they wrote. Almost 300 people were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nypd-swoops-makes-mass-arrests-columbia-rioters-escalate-alarming-untenable-situation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a>; no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is just too good! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ColumbiaLaw?\">@ColumbiaLaw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Columbia?\">@Columbia<\/a> students violate all rules and vandalize the university<\/p>\n<p>2. Police evacuates them<\/p>\n<p>3. They send a letter demanding that the university cancels their exams and gives them passing grades, because they are \u201cirrevocably shaken\u201d \ud83e\udd21 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PkGICfZJVX\">pic.twitter.com\/PkGICfZJVX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Pasqui (@Pasqui701) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Pasqui701\/status\/1786187663608799400?\">May 3, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe events of last night left us, and many of our peers, unable to focus and highly emotional during this tumultuous time,\u201d the plea for no exams read.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/irrevocably-shaken-editors-of-columbia-law-review-demand-cancellation-of-exams-citing-trauma-caused-by-police-presence-on-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Free Beacon<\/a> noted that a statement saying a \u201cwhite supremacist, neo-fascist hate group\u201d was guilty of \u201cstorming\u201d Columbia concerned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sharpton-admits-truth-msnbc-can-left-say-jan-6-wrong-not-anti-semitic-campus-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-Israel rally<\/a> organized by Christian Zionists that featured hymns and prayer.<\/p>\n<p>Columbia Law School said the exams were taking place.<\/p>\n<p>A message to students from law dean Gillian Lester said the only changes were that exams would be remote instead of in-person and that students who wanted the option of pass\/fail could request it, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/legalindustry\/columbia-law-resumes-finals-with-pass-fail-option-amid-war-protests-2024-05-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I say cancel the students &#038; expel them instead. Besides that we have enough crooked Democrat lawyers as it is. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YnVCSZ5liz\">https:\/\/t.co\/YnVCSZ5liz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kazoomike (@MikePIMarine) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikePIMarine\/status\/1786445196411986319?\">May 3, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Legal expert Jonathan Turley said if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-famous-pastors-grandson-stares-columbia-mob-refuses-let-continue-mission-destruction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">students can\u2019t cope<\/a> with pressure, they picked the wrong profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is indeed a learning moment. Law students need to be able to face such moments without shutting down due to the stress. Our profession is filled with stress and trauma. It is the environment in which we operate. In those moments, we do not have the option of being a no-show. We make our appearance and speak for others,\u201d he wrote on his <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2024\/05\/03\/irrevocably-shaken-columbia-law-review-editors-ask-for-cancellation-of-exams-due-to-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that law firms are likely to look for students who can handle high-stress situations. Admissions Data Suggest Otherwise.\">law students<\/a> are emotionally prepared for the pressures of practice when such protests shut them down and leave them \u2018unable to focus.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, they have been educated in systems that have fostered the sense of victimization or trauma from opposing views,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutside of the Columbia Law Review offices is a thing called life.
