Usually, that becomes a quick point of virality and controversy, before the world collectively moves on to the next viral thing.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s not nearly as common, however, is when a blatant mistake makes it through a final cut for a film \u2026 and nobody really notices for close to 35 years.<\/p>\n<p>That appears to be the case with the 1989 sci-fi cult classic, \u201cThe Abyss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The movie, which was directed by James Cameron (of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/titanic-debris-kate-winslet-floated-sells-tops-indiana-jones-whip-shining-ax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Titanic<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/avatar-director-claims-showing-pregnant-women-warriors-hunters-female-empowerment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Avatar<\/a>\u201d fame), is about a daring rescue mission of an ambushed nuclear submarine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Abyss\u201d features a fun supernatural twist that won\u2019t be spoiled here.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Abyss | Remastered 4K In Theaters | Official Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7cCVYAcIIAo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The error in question comes during a tense moment in the movie, but once you see the blunder, it really does take some of the oomph out of the scene.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Have you seen \u201cThe Abyss\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>See if you can spot it for yourself:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WARNING: The following scene contains language that some viewers may find offensive.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" the abyss scene with a glaring distraction width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZGeKo_5gUIY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Yes, in the middle of a poignant exchange between two key characters in the film, someone on the set felt compelled to wipe the camera clean with a very visible rag or towel.<\/p>\n<p>The scene went viral on X, as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">How the HELL have I not noticed that in all the years I\u2019ve been watching \u201cThe Abyss\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>How?<\/p>\n<p>HOW?! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UBm3vmWMho\">https:\/\/t.co\/UBm3vmWMho<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5C2FRKNzAN\">pic.twitter.com\/5C2FRKNzAN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Stokes (@davidleestokes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidleestokes\/status\/1786057144409763877?\">May 2, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An X post from screenwriter David Stokes swiftly garnered 25,000 likes just a day after going up.<\/p>\n<p>Director Stephen Ford also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StephenSeanFord\/status\/1786117938900316233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chimed in<\/a> on X, adding: \u201cI love this so much.
