The \u200dAustin\u200c City Council&#8217;s \u2063resolution enables transgender individuals to access gender reassignment therapy and protects healthcare providers. \u200cThis \u200bdecision was prompted by Texas \u200dAG Ken\u200b Paxton&#8217;s\u200b lawsuit challenging the \u2064Biden administration&#8217;s changes to\u2063 Title\u200c IX, which enhance \u2062safeguards against sex-based discrimination.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>The Austin City Council passed a resolution ensuring that transgender people may receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/transgender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>gender reassignment therapy<\/a> and providing protections for healthcare providers as well. <\/p>\n<p>The resolution comes just days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Texas<\/a> Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over its changes to Title IX, which expanded sex-based discrimination in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-justice-department-pick-helped-kill-pipeline-favored-by-key-senator\/\" title=\"Biden Justice Department Pick Helped Kill Pipeline Favored by Key Senator\">federal civil rights law<\/a> to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/theyre-erasing-gender-and-women-dana-perino-blasts-bidens-plan-to-unravel-title-ix\/\" title=\"\u2018They\u2019re Erasing Gender And Women\u2019: Dana Perino Blasts Biden\u2019s Plan To Unravel Title IX\">include transgender students<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrans people deserve the right to self-determination,\u201d Councilman Jose \u201cChito\u201d Vela, one of the resolution\u2019s sponsors, said during a Thursday meeting. \u201cOur state has forced them and their medical providers into hiding, and that is wrong. Austin should not be a party to that any more than we legally have to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution ensures that \u201cno City personnel, funds, or resources shall be used to investigate, criminally prosecute, or impose administrative penalties upon\u201d a transgender or nonbinary person seeking healthcare nor an individual or organization providing healthcare to a transgender person. Furthermore, \u201cthe City shall not terminate or limit the eligibility for City funding, such as grants or contracts, to an individual or organization for seeking, providing, or assisting with the provision of healthcare to a transgender or nonbinary individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Paxton said in a statement that Austin\u2019s resolution was \u201criddled with problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the City of Austin refuses to follow the law and protect children, my office will consider every possible response to ensure compliance,\u201d Paxton said in a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/statement-attorney-general-ken-paxton-after-austin-city-council-threatens-noncompliance-texas-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> statement<\/a>. \u201cTexas municipalities do not have the authority to pick and choose which state laws they will or will not abide by.
