In response, the groups, represented by the Thomas More Society, filed a complaint arguing constitutional violations and seek an injunction against further actions. The case signifies a crucial point in the abortion debate.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/%20\"><span>Jack Davis<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 3, 2024 at 2:07pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>A group of pro-life organizations that assist pregnant women are fighting back against a legal action launched against them by New York Attorney General Letitia James.<\/p>\n<p>On April 22, James\u2019 office sent \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/assets-global.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/6630189e82604e77bd5451e0_Notice%20to%20CompassCare.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Notice of Intent to Sue<\/a>\u201d letters to Heartbeat International, CompassCare and other pregnancy help organizations over what it claimed were \u201crepeated and persistent misleading statements and omissions in the advertising of the Abortion Pill Reversal (\u2018APR\u2019) protocol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>APR is what can take place when one of two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-abortion-advocate-desperately-tries-interrupt-pastors-prayer-capitol-fails-miserably\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a> pills has been ingested and a woman decides she wants to keep her baby instead of killing the child.<\/p>\n<p>In response to James\u2019 action, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-hawley-says-biden-abortion-policies-are-an-insult\/\" title=\"Sen. Hawley says Biden abortion policies are an insult\">pro-life groups<\/a> \u2014 represented by the Thomas More Society \u2014 filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/assets-global.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/66316c6cc9866f5cee7cda47_E2024007242_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_v_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_COMPLAINT_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complaint<\/a> Tuesday in state court arguing the attorney general\u2019s actions violate the First and 14th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, the New York Constitution and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/activists-seek-to-resuscitate-1972-equal-rights-amendment\/\" title=\"Activists Seek to Resuscitate 1972 Equal Rights Amendment\">state civil rights law<\/a>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasmoresociety.org\/news\/heartbeat-international-pregnancy-ministry-collective-sue-new-york-attorney-general-to-block-threatened-prosecution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a political witch-hunt against small nonprofits that have selflessly served New York\u2019s pregnant women and their children for over 50 years,\u201d \u200dPeter Breen, the Thomas More Society\u2019s executive vice president and head of litigation, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLetitia James should be heralding these charities, not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-ag-letitia-james-challenged-over-her-political-witch-hunt-against-pro-life-groups\/\" title=\"New York AG Faces Criticism for Targeting Pro-Life Organizations\">launching outrageously false claims<\/a> against them under laws that don\u2019t apply to their noncommercial speech,\u201d Breen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor decades, doctors have been prescribing supplemental progesterone for pregnant women at serious risk for miscarriage \u2014 but because this safe and long-established practice may actually reverse abortions, ideologues like Letitia James now want to squelch it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Breen said the actions taken by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dozens-arrested-massive-nyc-pro-abortion-protests-left-fox-news-hq-womens-republican-club-vandalized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James<\/a> are a \u201ctransparent attempt to harass small pro-life charities into silence, targeting her political opponents because of their beliefs, in flagrant violation of the First Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should Letitia James be removed from office?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe will fight back as long as it takes against Ms. James\u2019 efforts to jeopardize the Christian and life-affirming missions of Heartbeat International, CompassCare, and all similar pro-life ministries in the State of New York,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The groups <a href=\"https:\/\/assets-global.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/663290a1aa19ad818c97a2be_E2024007242_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_v_HEARTBEAT_INTERNATIONA_MEMORANDUM_OF_LAW_5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seeking an injunction<\/a> to stop the attorney general\u2019s office from proceeding with its campaign against the pro-life groups.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8BREAKING NEWS: NY Attorney General Letitia James is trying to illegally silence pregnancy help organizations. On behalf of Heartbeat International, CompassCare, and a collective of pregnancy help organizations, we are taking her to court.<\/p>\n<p>PRESS RELEASE: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ltfSAn822F\">https:\/\/t.co\/ltfSAn822F<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tRAcGzO36J\">pic.twitter.com\/tRAcGzO36J<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Thomas More Society (@ThomasMoreSoc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ThomasMoreSoc\/status\/1785439166974529556?\">April 30, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The complaint said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/huge-win-trump-new-york-appellate-court-rules-favor-hours-bond-due\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">her demands<\/a> \u201care the latest development in her politically motivated campaign against pregnancy organizations in general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time, James targets Plaintiffs\u2019 protected speech and activities engaged in for the sole benefit of pregnant women who have ingested-whether voluntarily or via trick or force-mifepristone, the first pill of the two-pill chemical abortion regimen, but wish to continue their pregnancies,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of celebrating the reproductive choice of these pregnant women who have decided to seek to preserve their pregnancies and bring their children to term and celebrating the work of New York\u2019s pregnancy help organizations which empower them in the exercise of their rights, Defendant James has launched a public campaign of opprobrium against the organizations and the APR protocol,\u201d the complaint said, noting the attorney general is attacking pro-life organizations in partnership with abortion provider Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>While attacking organizations whose politics disagree with hers, it said, \u201cJames has taken no action against patently false and misleading statements about the safety and efficacy of chemical abortion by pro-abortion providers who enjoy her favor, including Planned Parenthood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the case is only focused on New York, the Rev.
