Henry Cuellar (D-TX) \u200bissued a statement \u2064asserting his innocence after facing federal corruption \u2062and bribery indictments along with his wife Imelda Cuellar. Allegedly involved in bribery schemes, the couple was accused of receiving around $600,000 from an \u200boil company linked\u200b to Azerbaijan and a \u200dMexican bank. Accused of\u2062 receiving approximately $600,000 from entities tied to Azerbaijan and Mexico, Cuellar denies wrongdoing and seeks legal advice.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/henry-cuellar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henry Cuellar<\/a> (D-TX) released a statement on Friday maintaining his innocence after he and his wife were indicted on federal corruption and bribery charges.<\/p>\n<p>The 68-year-old congressman was charged along with his wife, Imelda Cuellar, 67, of participating in two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-henry-cuellar-indicted-in-federal-corruption-investigation\/\" title=\"Democrat Henry Cuellar Faces Federal Corruption Indictment\">alleged schemes involving bribery<\/a>, unlawful foreign influence, and money laundering, the DOJ said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Cuellars allegedly took nearly $600,000 in bribes from an oil and gas company that is wholly owned and controlled by the government of Azerbaijan and a bank that is headquartered in Mexico city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bribe payments were laundered, pursuant to sham consulting contracts, through a series of front companies and middlemen into shell companies owned by Imelda Cuellar,\u201d prosecutors allege. \u201cCuellar performed little or no legitimate work under the sham contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to be clear that both my wife and I are innocent of these allegations,\u201d he claimed in a statement. \u201cEverything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuellar claimed that he only took the actions after he \u201cproactively sought legal advice from the House Ethics Committee, who gave me more than one written opinion, along with an additional opinion from a national law firm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that the actions he took were \u201cconsistent with the actions of many of my colleagues\u201d and that they were always in America\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Cuellar praised his wife in the statement and claimed that she was an accomplished business professional and said that he was offended by the insinuation that his wife was \u201canything but qualified and hard working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The indictment comes after the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fbi-raided-home-of-top-democrat-henry-cuellar-as-part-of-probe-involving-ex-soviet-state-of-azerbaijan-u-s-businessman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raided<\/a> Cuellar\u2019s home and campaign office back in 2022 as part of the criminal investigation into the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan and several U.S. businessmen. Numerous items were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fbi-agents-seize-items-from-home-of-texas-democrat-congressman-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seized<\/a> during the raid.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege that in exchange for the bribes, Cuellar, who is the Ranking Member on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, used his office to influence U.S. foreign policy in a manner favorable to Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn exchange for the bribes paid by the Mexican bank, Congressman Cuellar allegedly agreed to influence legislative activity and to advise and pressure high-ranking U.S. Executive Branch officials regarding measures beneficial to the bank,\u201d the DOJ said.<\/p>\n<p>Both individuals were charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit bribery of a federal official and to have a public official act as an agent of a foreign principal; two counts of bribery of a federal official; two counts of conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-to-review-corruption-charges-against-top-ex-gov-cuomo-aide\/\" title=\"SCOTUS to Review Corruption Charges Against Top Ex-Gov. Cuomo Aide\">commit honest services wire fraud<\/a>; two counts of violating the ban on public officials acting as agents of a foreign principal; one count of conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering; and five counts of money laundering.<\/p>\n<p>If convicted on all of the charges, both individuals face a maximum of up to 204 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
