The ICC is reviewing the possibility of charging Israeli officials, \u2064including PM Benjamin Netanyahu. The independence\u2062 and\u2064 impartiality of the ICC are\u200c crucial, as threats could\u2063 undermine its mandate. Additionally, the court is investigating Hamas&#8217;s attack in \u200dIsrael and Israel&#8217;s response in Gaza.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/international-criminal-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>International Criminal Court<\/a> Prosecutor Karim Khan\u2019s office condemned any attempts to intimidate the court from carrying out its duties, likely in response to U.S. and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Israeli<\/a> statements criticizing possible ICC charges against Israeli leaders over the war in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gaza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gaza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ICC is considering whether to file charges against Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>, though it\u2019s unclear when they could be announced, if at all. Amid the reports, both Israeli and U.S. leaders have said they wouldn\u2019t support any warrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office seeks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-troops-photographed-in-somalia-after-biden-administration-said-withdrawal-occurred\/\" title=\"US Troops Photographed in Somalia After Biden Administration Said Withdrawal Occurred\">engage constructively<\/a> with all stakeholders whenever such dialogue is consistent with its mandate under the Rome Statute to act independently and impartially. That independence and impartiality are undermined, however, when individuals threaten to retaliate against the Court or against Court personnel should the Office, in fulfillment of its mandate, make decisions about investigations or cases falling within its jurisdiction,\u201d the prosecutor\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The court is investigating Hamas\u2019s Oct. 7 terrorist attack in Israel that left roughly 1,200 people dead and another roughly 250 taken hostage and Israel\u2019s military response in Gaza. The death toll in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gaza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gaza<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chaos-in-khartoum-dozens-killed-in-airstrikes-as-civil-war-looms-in-sudan\/\" title=\"Chaos In Khartoum: Dozens Killed In Airstrikes As Civil War Looms In Sudan\">including combatants<\/a> and civilians, exceeds 34,000 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu said any decision by the ICC would not affect Israel\u2019s actions but could set a \u201cdangerous precedent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder my leadership, Israel will never accept any attempt by the International Criminal Court in the Hague to undermine its basic right to defend itself,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/netanyahu-says-icc-decisions-will-not-affect-israels-actions-set-dangerous-2024-04-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in a Telegram post. \u201cWhile decisions made by the court in the Hague will not affect Israel\u2019s actions, they will set a dangerous precedent that threatens soldiers and public figures.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Arrest warrant repercussions<\/h2>\n<p>Israel is not a member of the court, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mayor-declares-state-of-emergency-ahead-of-bodycam-footage-release-of-fatal-shooting\/\" title=\"Mayor Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Bodycam Footage Release Of Fatal Shooting\">arrest warrants<\/a> would limit the people they\u2019re filed against from traveling abroad.
