Gov. J.B. Pritzker has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-signals-support-for-amazon-workers-vote-to-unionize\/\" title=\"Biden Signals Support For Amazon Workers\u2019 Vote To Unionize\">signaled support<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/billstatus.asp?DocNum=2412&#038;GAID=17&#038;GA=103&#038;DocTypeID=SB&#038;LegID=147311&#038;SessionID=112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Senate Bill 2412<\/strong><\/a> originally started as a measure impacting child welfare, but late Wednesday, House Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_63866818-080b-11ef-b7ae-b3b420a67d3b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>gutted<\/strong><\/a> the bill to bring about an elections measure. House Republicans voted present and walked off the floor in protest, saying the measure was dropped on them last minute. <\/p>\n<p>The measure as amended sets three non-binding referendums to ask the state\u2019s voters about property taxes, in vitro fertilization, and election worker security. It also changes filing deadlines and gets rid of the slating process where Democrats and Republicans can be placed on a general election ballot despite not running in the primary. <\/p>\n<p>Asked about the bill at an unrelated event Thursday, Pritzker said he hasn\u2019t read the measure fully. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just got put through,\u201d Pritzker said. \u201cI haven\u2019t seen the details of it but as I understand this is actually an ethics bill. It really does make sure that we don\u2019t have backroom deals to put people on the ballot and run as a result of some small group of people in a smoke filled room making the choice. So I think, to me, more transparency is better.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On concurrence in the Senate Thursday where it also passed, state Sen. Erica Harriss, R-Glen Carbon, said the measure encompasses everything wrong with Illinois, and was filed less than 24 hours before being brought up in the Senate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill was filed yesterday, yesterday,\u201d Harriss said. \u201cIt\u2019s a slap in the face to the concept of democracy and this is a shameful and political power grab.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader John Curran, R-Downers Grove, said the Democrats\u2019 measure gets rid of competition in the middle of an election. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also a slap in the face to voters that one of the ballot questions you\u2019ve included is about election interference when that\u2019s exactly what this legislation does,\u201d said Curran. \u201cThink about that for a minute. You\u2019re saying you\u2019re afraid of competition and you\u2019ll do anything to gain one more seat, one more advantage in November.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Senate President Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, said the measure addresses a practice he said has been abused, and the bill impacts both parties. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe Democrats won\u2019t be able to slate candidates for the Senate in any district where your members are running unopposed,\u201d Harmon said. <\/p>\n<p>In March\u2019s primary, more than half of available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/19-statehouses-have-bigger-republican-majorities-than-florida-this-group-is-making-sure-they-act-like-it\/\" title=\"19 Statehouses Have Bigger Republican Majorities Than Florida.
