Governor\u200b Hobbs vows to safeguard these rights, marking a significant development in Arizona&#8217;s legislative landscape.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/arizona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a> Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs signed a repeal of the state\u2019s 1864 abortion law on Thursday after the state\u2019s Supreme Court ruled last month that the law, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-sues-texas-for-law-protecting-unborn-babies-with-heart-activity-clearly-unconstitutional\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Sues Texas For Law Protecting Unborn Babies With Heart Activity: \u2018Clearly Unconstitutional\u2019\">protects unborn babies<\/a> from nearly all abortions, could go into effect.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion law repeal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arizonas-republican-controlled-senate-passes-repeal-of-states-1864-abortion-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> Arizona\u2019s Republican-controlled legislature thanks to five Republicans \u2014 three in the state House and two in the state Senate \u2014 who voted with every Democrat. Upon signing the legislation, Hobbs said she would \u201cdo everything in [her] power to protect our reproductive freedoms,\u201d AZ Central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/legislature\/2024\/05\/02\/arizona-abortion-ban-gov-katie-hobbs-signs-1864-law-repeal\/73534194007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we are doing what 23 governors and 55 legislatures refused to do, and I am so proud to be the ones that got this job done,\u201d Hobbs said.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s high court ruled in April that the 160-year-old law could go into effect. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hillary-clinton-praises-teen-who-secretly-switched-valedictorian-speech-to-bash-texas-abortion-law\/\" title=\"Hillary Clinton Praises Teen Who Secretly Switched Valedictorian Speech To Bash Texas Abortion Law\">law bans abortion<\/a> in every circumstance except when the mother\u2019s life is in danger. It also punishes anyone who aided in an abortion by two to five years in prison. Now that Hobbs has signed the repeal, state law will revert to a 15-week abortion limitation that was signed into law by former Republican Governor Doug Ducey in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The 1864 abortion law will be in effect for a short time since the repeal won\u2019t take place until at least 90 days after the state legislature ends its legislative session. Arizona Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes, however, said her \u201coffice is exploring every option available to prevent this outrageous 160-year-old law from ever taking effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the Arizona Supreme Court\u2019s decision, Democrats jumped at the opportunity to blame former President Donald Trump for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gov-noem-effectively-bans-telemedicine-abortions-restricts-chemical-abortions-in-south-dakota\/\" title=\"Gov. Noem Effectively Bans Telemedicine Abortions, Restricts Chemical Abortions\u00a0In South Dakota\">law taking effect<\/a> with the Biden campaign saying the near-total abortion was \u201cenforceable because Trump ended <em>Roe<\/em>.\u201d Some Republicans, including Trump and Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake, criticized the abortion law and called for the state\u2019s legislature to address it.<\/p>\n<p>Susan B.
