Senate\u200d Minority Whip \u200cJohn Thune commented on the \u2063matter.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Senate<\/a> is hoping to pass a bipartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2986600\/house-passes-bill-expanding-definition-antisemitism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>antisemitism bill<\/a> that was approved overwhelmingly by the House but is already facing opposition from members who won\u2019t allow leadership to fast-track the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Two Senate leadership aides said Thursday that both parties were working to secure a time agreement that would allow the chamber to bypass a series of legislative hurdles to quick passage.<\/p>\n<p>However, the bill, which would codify the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance\u2019s definition of antisemitism, is facing objections on both sides of the aisle, according to multiple senators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s who you would expect,\u201d Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), while libertarian Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) confirmed that he would object to the legislation when it is brought to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to be up today, but I will,\u201d Paul said.<\/p>\n<p>The House passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act on Wednesday in a 320-91 vote, with 70 Democrats and 21 Republicans opposed.<\/p>\n<p>The measure, which would expand the definition of antisemitism as the Department of Education enforces anti-discrimination laws, comes amid pro-Palestinian protests at colleges and universities, some of which have turned violent and antisemitic. Republicans and some Democrats have pressured the Biden administration to clamp down on the demonstrations and threaten taxpayer funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heres-what-each-of-bidens-42-executive-orders-will-actually-do\/\" title=\"Here\u2019s What Each Of Biden\u2019s 42 Executive Orders Will Actually Do\">higher education institutions<\/a> if they persist on campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether President Joe Biden would sign the House-passed antisemitism bill into law, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday that the president \u201cwelcomes congressional action in this fight.\u201d She declined to offer an overt endorsement of the legislation, saying she wanted to be careful as \u201cseveral bills\u201d are being discussed.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Sen.
