He emphasizes the importance \u2062of independence, stating, &#8220;You&#8217;ve got to row your\u200b own boat.&#8221;\u200d Goldblum&#8217;s decision reflects\u2062 a growing trend among celebrities like Gordon Ramsey and Ashton Kutcher, \u2064who opt not\u200b to leave significant inheritances to their children.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/aanton\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/aanton\/%20\"><span>Allison Anton<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 2, 2024 at 10:38am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Many people have idly dreamt of all their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-boris-beckers-fail-makes-for-a-must-see-documentary\/\" title=\"Why Boris Becker\u2019s Fail Makes For A Must-See Documentary\">money woes<\/a> one day being magically solved by an unexpected inheritance.<\/p>\n<p>But, the truth of the matter is that, oftentimes, receiving so much all at once, with no work involved, has not been a good thing for the person receiving it.<\/p>\n<p>Think of the lottery winners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2021\/10\/07\/most-lottery-winners-go-into-debt-horror-stories\/6019987001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who went bankrupt<\/a>  after hitting the jackpot, or even the stereotype of the spoiled offspring of privilege who couldn\u2019t be bothered to do something useful with their lives, yet demand a life of luxury without any work (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hunter-biden-admits-name-gold-ukrainian-company-controversially-hired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter Biden<\/a>, anyone?).<\/p>\n<p>Well, one man seeking to buck that trend is legendary Hollywood actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/actor-jeff-goldblum-dishes-becoming-first-time-dad-age-60\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeff Goldblum<\/a>, who, in a recent interview, revealed that he did not plan to financially support his children when they get older.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the podcast \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/1119-table-for-two-105373224\/episode\/jeff-goldblum-172152255\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Table for Two<\/a>\u201d with Bruce Bozzi on Tuesday, Goldblum talked about his personal life as well as his acting career.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/jeff-goldblum-says-hes-clear-with-his-kids-that-theyll-need-to-support-themselves-8641338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People magazine<\/a>, Goldblum, 71, has two sons with his wife, Emilie Livingston: 8-year-old Charlie and 6-year-old River.<\/p>\n<p>And, as he told Bozzi, he wanted them to be independent when they get older, saying that, \u201cHey, you know, you\u2019ve got to row your own boat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goldblum, who\u2019s starred in such hits as \u201cIndependence Day,\u201d \u201cThe Big Chill,\u201d and \u201cJurassic Park,\u201d expanded on this sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve got to figure out how to find out what\u2019s wanted and needed and where that intersects with your love and passion and what you can do. And even if it doesn\u2019t, you might have to do that anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Would you make a similar decision?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As of 2022, Goldblum had an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cardi-b-mariah-carey-complain-of-racial-discrimination-pay-disparity\/\" title=\"Cardi B, Mariah Carey Complain Of Racial Discrimination, Pay Disparity\">estimated net worth<\/a> of about $40 million, according to the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celebritynetworth.com\/richest-celebrities\/actors\/jeff-goldblum-net-worth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celebrities Net Worth<\/a>, which uses data from public sources, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stacey-abrams-purchased-two-homes-valued-at-1-4-million-after-reporting-massive-debts-in-2018\/\" title=\"Stacey Abrams purchased two homes valued at .4 Million after reporting massive debts in 2018\">real estate records<\/a>, as well as private tips.<\/p>\n<p>Now, to be clear, Goldblum was clear that he would not throw his kids out on the street when they turned 18 and let them sink or swim.<\/p>\n<p>He said explicitly that he \u201cdidn\u2019t want to scare them,\u201d but at the same time, \u201cI\u2019m not going to do it for you, and you\u2019re not going to want me to do it for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, as the U.K.\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/jeff-goldblum-children-inheritance-b2537714.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent<\/a> noted, Goldblum was not alone in making this decision with regards to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/superstar-couple-ryan-gosling-eva-mendes-ditch-hollywood-good-children-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">children<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the celebrities who said they would not leave their children money (or at least not a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-create-an-executive-order-and-have-2020-ballots-and-images-audited-in-select-states-using-jovan-pulitzer-method\/\" title=\"President Trump PLEASE CREATE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER and Have 2020 Ballots and Images Audited in Select States Using Jovan Pulitzer Method\">significant amount<\/a> of it) were celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey, actor Ashton Kutcher, actress Mila Kunis, and actress and singer Marie Osmond.<\/p>\n<p>Osmond herself told the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/01\/entertainment\/jeff-goldblum-refuses-to-leave-money-to-kids-charlie-8-river-6-row-your-own-boat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> in January 2023 that, in giving children vasts amounts of money without earning it, they \u201cdon\u2019t learn the joy of hard work, of picking themselves up when things don\u2019t work. I believe, in general, that you rob children of the experience of figuring out who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like many of his peers, Goldblum\u2019s decision was likely prompted, not just by his own life experience, but from what he saw in his long years working in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hollywood-reportedly-rough-shape-midst-massive-change-money-tight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hollywood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many children of actors and entertainers have crashed and burned simply because they were given vast fortunes they didn\u2019t earn, yet felt entitled to.<\/p>\n<p>People need to work to find purpose in their lives \u2014 without that purpose, too many have fallen into hedonism, debauchery, and all manner of debilitating substance addictions.
