This collaboration focuses on protecting artists from exploitation using &#8220;generative AI.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Universal Music Group<\/a>, which represents a vast array of artists including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taylor-swift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Taylor Swift<\/a>, Billie Eilish, Adele, and Drake, signed a deal that will allow its music to return to TikTok on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s music was pulled from TikTok after a deal between the two ran out on Feb. 1, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/2\/24146994\/tiktok-universal-music-group-sign-deal-generative-ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the <em>Verge<\/em><\/a>. UMG and TikTok agreed to a deal that would reportedly protect artists against exploitation via \u201cgenerative AI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok and UMG will work together to ensure AI development across the music industry will protect human artistry and the economics that flow to those artists and songwriters,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universalmusic.com\/universal-music-group-and-tiktok-announce-new-licensing-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>press release<\/a>. \u201cTikTok is also committed to working with UMG to remove unauthorized AI-generated music from the platform, as well as tools to improve artist and songwriter attribution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the estate of Tupac Shakur threatened to sue rapper Drake for featuring an AI-generated vocal track of Shakur on a \u201cdiss track\u201d insulting foe Kendrick Lamar, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/tupac-shakur-estate-drake-diss-track-ai-generated-voice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Billboard<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac\u2019s voice and personality,\u201d the estate wrote at the time. \u201cNot only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac\u2019s publicity and the estate\u2019s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time.
