They highlighted President\u2064 Biden&#8217;s comments at \u2062the White House Correspondents&#8217; Association dinner, where he\u2064 referenced \u2063the trial. Meanwhile, Trump&#8217;s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, has been\u200d engaging on \u2064TikTok, causing\u2064 further scrutiny in the case.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Attorneys for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> said on Thursday the sweeping gag order against their client in the New York hush money trial bars the former president from defending himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudge, last weekend, last weekend, President Trump\u2019s rival, President Biden, said in a public forum \u2014 he talked about this trial, and he talked about a witness that\u2019s going to be in this trial. He mocked President Trump,\u201d Trump attorney Todd Blanche said, referring to President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s speech at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3i11PiCnLos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"White House Correspondents Dinner\">White House Correspondents\u2019 Association dinner<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald has had a few tough days lately. (Charly Triballeau\/Pool Photo via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-trial-begins-here-are-the-hush-money-case-weaknesses-trump-could-exploit\/\" title=\"Trump's trial commences: Exploring the potential weaknesses in the hush money case\">prosecutors\u2019 star witness<\/a> in the case, former Trump attorney and fixer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-cohen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michael Cohen<\/a>, \u201chas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/michael-cohen-livestreaming-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"started going on TikTok nightly\">started going on TikTok nightly<\/a> and literally making money,\u201d Blanche added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was fined $9,000 earlier this week after prosecutors sought to hold him in contempt for 10 alleged violations of his gag order. Each violation Judge Juan Merchan finds results in a $1,000 fee and can result in limited jail time, although prosecutors said Thursday they would not seek such penalties at this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we prefer to minimize disruptions to this proceeding, we are not yet seeking jail,\u201d prosecutor Chris Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors with Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2902594\/alvin-bragg-dealt-blow-after-arizona-judge-rules-not-to-extradite-murder-suspect-to-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a>\u2018s office have alleged four additional violations of the gag order, including one instance in which Trump criticized the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chauvin-juror-jury-duty-a-chance-to-spark-some-change-something-we-got-to-do\/\" title=\"Chauvin Juror: Jury Duty A Chance To \u2018Spark Some Change,\u2019 Something \u2018We Got To Do\u2019\">jury selection process<\/a> as too fast, a second violation in which Trump called witness David Pecker a \u201cnice guy,\u201d a third in which Trump called Cohen a \u201cconvicted liar,\u201d and a fourth in which Trump said on April 22 that Cohen lied during his last trial.<\/p>\n<p>Merchan said he was \u201cnot terribly concerned\u201d about Trump calling Pecker a \u201cnice guy\u201d because Trump and the former <em>National Enquirer <\/em>publisher have been friends for years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to save you time, I\u2019m not terribly concerned about that one,\u201d the judge said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Blanche argued that Cohen and Stormy Daniels, the porn star who was paid $130,000 by Cohen to stay silent about her alleged affair with Trump, should not have \u201cprotection\u201d in the gag order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re not people that need to be protected,\u201d said Blanche, who, at one point, read aloud Cohen\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-actor-ingo-rademacher-leaving-abcs-general-hospital-following-transgender-controversy\/\" title=\"Reports: Actor Ingo Rademacher Leaving ABC's 'General Hospital' Following Transgender Controversy\">social media post referring<\/a> to Trump as \u201cVon Shitzinpantz.\u201d Blanche said Cohen is \u201calmost daring\u201d Trump to respond.<\/p>\n<p>Conroy said there is no question that Trump continues to violate his gag order willfully, stating that such violations are \u201cpart of the plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant thinks the rules should be different for him,\u201d Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the defense\u2019s and prosecutors\u2019 points about Cohen, Merchan declared Trump is \u201cnot allowed to refer to a foreseeable witness.\u201d Regarding Biden\u2019s recent comments, Merchan said, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing in the gag order that says he can\u2019t respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Merchan did not rule immediately from the bench before the 12-member jury was brought back into the courtroom to hear continued testimony from Keith Davidson, an attorney for Daniels and one other woman who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/manhattan-da-raises-alarm-over-former-prosecutors-trump-book\/\" title=\"Manhattan DA Raises Alarm Over Former Prosecutor\u2019s Trump Book\">paid hush money<\/a> during Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign. His comments indicated he could fine Trump on up to three alleged gag order violation claims prosecutors have made.<\/p>\n<p>Bragg has charged Trump under New York Penal Law Section 175.10, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt?
