Texas contributed significantly to U.S. energy production, enabling the nation to meet \u2064rising global demands. How Much Would It Cost?\">natural gas consumption<\/a>, and its supply wouldn\u2019t have been possible without record U.S. production, led by Texas, according to several reports.<\/p>\n<p>Texas produced the equivalent of one-third of the natural gas consumed last year, with Texas producers breaking multiple records last year, The Center Square <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_7b9b8744-f2c6-11ee-ab92-5f4c06077ef2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Americans consumed 89.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf\/d) of natural gas as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eating-meat-does-it-make-you-live-longer\/\" title=\"Eating Meat, Does It Make You Live Longer?\">primary energy source<\/a>. Natural gas was the top energy source powering homes and businesses. Last year\u2019s consumption was \u201cthe most on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/ng\/TblDefs\/ng_cons_sum_tbldef2.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">record<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d the U.S. Energy Information said in a recent report. Since 2018, domestic natural gas consumption has increased by an average of 4% annually, according to EIA\u2019s analysis.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. natural gas consumption also set annual and monthly records during 2023. Monthly natural gas consumption set new record highs every month from March through November 2023. The largest monthly increases were seen in July and August, which set monthly records, \u201cdespite cooler-than-normal temperatures than during those months in 2022,\u201d EIA said. <\/p>\n<p>Over the years, domestic natural gas consumption has increased as coal-fired electric-generating capacity decreased. \u201cU.S. coal production units are retiring as the nation\u2019s coal fleet ages and coal-fired generators are replaced by generators using natural gas and renewables,\u201d EIA said. <\/p>\n<p>EIA also reported that last year, Texas\u2019 oil, natural gas\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exxon-is-mining-bitcoin-in-north-dakota\/\" title=\"Exxon Is Mining Bitcoin in North Dakota\">natural gas liquids<\/a> (NGLs) production reached new highs. In an analysis of the EIA data, a Texas Oil &#038; Gas Association report found that last December, Texas\u2019 NGL exports were the greatest since 2010, The Center Square <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_7b9b8744-f2c6-11ee-ab92-5f4c06077ef2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is after the U.S. became the world\u2019s largest LNG exporter in the first half of 2022, made possible by the Gulf states of Texas and Louisiana. Texas produced roughly a quarter of America\u2019s natural gas supply at the time, according to the EIA. The U.S. has been able to meet increasing natural gas demand from European and Asian countries \u201clargely thanks to Texas energy production and export infrastructure,\u201d according to a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_b976b344-6b5a-11ed-9473-a70b84714eda.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a><\/strong> by Texans for Natural Gas, the educational arm of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO). <\/p>\n<p>Despite the policies of the Biden administration, the Texas legislature, Gov. Greg Abbott\u00a0and\u00a0Texas producers have helped stabilize the energy market, Ed Longanecker, president of TIPRO and TNG spokesperson, told The Center Square. The Texas legislature has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_3d456408-3857-11ee-98ae-b723b41b0fd5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prioritized legislation<\/a><\/strong> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oil-gas-industry-other-stakeholders-oil-reserve-release-temporary-real-relief-calls-for-domestic-energy-production\/\" title=\"Oil, Gas Industry, Other Stakeholders: Oil Reserve Release Temporary, Real Relief Calls for Domestic Energy Production\">encourage domestic production<\/a> and its state regulatory agency has implemented measures to ensure increased safety. <\/p>\n<p>Texas producers in the Permian Basin, the powerhouse of U.S. production, have also made unprecedented strides in technological advancements leading to emissions reductions, The Center Square has exclusively <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_1c5d9398-a123-11ee-89dd-5759b508f6ff.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong>. From 2011 to 2021, methane emissions intensity in the Permian Basin fell by more than 76% as production increased by over 345%, The Center Square first <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_4d153330-9d9e-11ed-ba75-8f7f6258ef59.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong>. According to TNG\u2019s latest report, Permian Basin methane intensity fell by nearly 85% between 2011 and 2022, as new production records were also reached during the same\u00a0time period.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe United States broke production records in 2023, producing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/ng\/hist\/n9070us2A.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">37 trillion cubic feet<\/a><\/strong> of natural gas with Texas also reaching new highs and delivering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rrc.texas.gov\/news\/040924-texas-oil-and-gas-production-records-tumbled-in-2023\/#:~:text=Oil%20production%20hit%20a%20record,record%20by%20more%20than%2013%25.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">12 trillion cubic feet<\/a><\/strong> of natural gas into the American and global supply chain,\u201d Longanecker told The Center Square. \u201cAs <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texansfornaturalgas.com\/texas_plays_key_role_in_keeping_natural_gas_prices_low_amid_lng_export_boom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TNG recently highlighted<\/a><\/strong>, a strong supply of U.S. natural gas, largely supplied by Texas, has kept domestic energy markets stabilized as the power sector increases its natural gas demand and our LNG market grows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no secret that natural gas is and will remain a critical fuel source for our country and allies as we work towards a reliable and resilient lower-emission economy. Last year\u2019s high consumption figures are a testament to that. American and Texan natural gas producers are proving an ability to not only meet local and global demand, but an ability to do so responsibly.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As the Biden administration has introduced policies to limit LNG exports, block domestic production on federal lands, and advance federal regulatory restrictions on the industry while also advancing subsidies for \u201crenewable\u201d energy companies, Longanecker points out, \u201cNatural gas is critical to keeping the lights on. Time and time again, we\u2019ve seen natural gas deliver dispatchable power when the grid faces strains on supply amid demand spikes. From heatwaves to winter storms, natural gas will only grow in importance as the amount of intermittent power sources on the grid increases.
